Legacy – Together

Legacy – Together

"Together" is the keyword of our approach to legacy

A positive legacy built together by all the actors involved in Milano Cortina 2026. The Games are transforming Italy by promoting sport practice and recognising the strategic role of sport — now enshrined in the Constitution — in building resilience and accelerating sustainable local economic development. Over 330 legacy projects have been activated across Italy, developed around seven key pillars that guide action and impact on the territory:

  • Sport and Physical Activity
  • Gender Equality and Inclusion
  • Accessibility
  • Skills
  • Mobility
  • Environment
  • Health and Healthcare

Sustainable Local Economic Development

  • New jobs due to new or renovated infrastructure, Event Delivery Entities created specifically for the Games and increased tourism.

  • Building knowledge by organising university courses for volunteers and Event Delivery Entities.

Impact 2026

The project dedicated to social entrepreneurs and SMEs to promote local sustainable economic development and create a Legacy for the area.

The Impact

  • The legacy of the Milano Cortina 2026 Olympic and Paralympic Winter Games takes shape in two distinct areas that reflect the dual nature of the project: the cities and the mountains. The objectives for these two territories are specific: to counter depopulation in mountain areas and to support the creation and acceleration of strategic projects and new urban spaces for the benefit of citizens.

  • For locations such as Bormio, Livigno, Cortina, Predazzo, Tesero and Anterselva, the primary goal is to reverse the trend of depopulation. The acceleration of investments in sports and mobility infrastructure, the new governance model (through the Event Delivery Entities), the development of knowledge, the strengthening of the healthcare system (such as the modernization of Livigno’s hospital and the new framework agreement between hospitals), and the major media visibility generated by the Games will offer mountain areas a renewed perspective for the next twenty years.

  • In Milano and Verona, the focus is on accelerating urban regeneration projects. Thanks to long-term public and private investments, the cities will see the development of renewed neighbourhoods, offering citizens new spaces to live in.Moreover, the initiatives promoted by Partners – focused on the renovation of public spaces and social inclusion projects – will foster greater mobility and lay the foundations for a new generation of sports enthusiasts.
