I’ve been noticing that the OT thread has not had a consistent category, so my idea is…what if we had a new category for threads? It would make them all easier to find, and easier to go back to old discussions if desired.
I know this isnt a great time for this lol, but maybe on the new platform we can have this too? /genq /nf

Why do you think you should be promoted?: With the situation that’s going on right now, I’ve noticed several things go without their required warnings (especially with all the new users /nm /ntarg /npa), and I’d like to be able to help MrsBunny3 and DearKokoromy with fixing that instead of just alerting them whenever it happens.
Any other information: I think I’m pretty good at reminding others whenever TWs are needed, as well as adding TWs to my own posts when necessary.
Also, I believe I am a trusted member of the community, and I can be active nearly every day.

Now that it is clear Fandom isn't going to change their mind. We need a new wiki host.
I have a copy of the wiki database as of Monday and another team is working on backing up the wiki to archive.org, so don't worry about that. We will be able to restore the wiki even after Fandom stops hosting it.
Edit: to clarify this thread is for coming up with ideas for a new host for the wiki. The wiki staff will handle most of the migration (the actual creation will likely be handled by me or Urmother57, since we are the wiki's bureaucrats).
It is also for discussing the advantages and disadvantages of each option.
Do not attempt to create a new wiki yourself, we are trying to move the whole community, not fracture it. Again the wiki staff will handle most of the migration.
We would normally not do this but these are not normal times. Keep-ur-eyes-open has expressed interest in Discussions Moderator rights for the sole purpose of editing the petition- numbers, signatures, the like (basically this thread, if I understand correctly). Due to the wiki closing this request is being expedited and possibly will be done after a discussion among the staff and/or sooner than 2 days.

Hi! I'm not a Gender Wiki community member, but I actually do know a bit about wiki closures. In fact, I helped the Neurodiversity Wiki avoid closure in January.
Disclaimer: I'm not a Fandom staff member. I cannot speak for them or change what happens to the Gender Wiki. But I can give my thoughts on how to save the wiki (if that's what you want).
I have seen several wiki closures. I documented my knowledge in a blog post: "Everything I know about wiki closures." Some highlights:
Fandom's rules around misinformation, especially medical misinformation, have gotten stricter. That means that wikis need to be mindful how they write about conditions like autism, anxiety, OCD, and others. Sharing info that isn't backed up by research can get wikis closed. (Example: Multiplicity Wiki)
Wiki admin activity and rules are seen as important to keeping misinformation off a wiki. I worked with Sannse to adjust the Autism Living Wiki's rules for this reason.
Iffy/questionable article topics play a role in article closure. This includes stuff like content that goes too far beyond a PG rating and stuff that's too controversial/offensive/iffy (e.g. the Psychology Wiki had a popular article on race and intelligence).
Negotiating and collaborating with Fandom staff has worked before. Both the Neurodiversity Wiki and Autism Living Wiki are still open.

Why petitions probably won't save the wiki
The question to ask isn't "How many petition signatures will change things?" It's "What changes would it take for Fandom staff to agree to save the wiki?"
Sannse's post said exactly what's wrong, which means it also contains the recipe for the fix. A direct quote:
"this wiki has gone too far in positioning everything as a gender identity. That has included seriously problematic pages such as those related to violence and self-harm, genders related to criminal actions, those referring to medical conditions, and so on."
So, in Fandom's eyes:
Violence, crime, and self-harm genders = problem
Conditions/neurodivergence as genders = problem
"Everything as a gender identity" = mayyyybe a problem? (I'd ask about that)
This wiki has a category called "Articles with questionable content." Inside are articles describing genders that are violent, gory, or medical in nature. Articles like these ones seem to be what caused Fandom to make this decision. If you want to save the wiki, maybe it's time for some edits and deletions. (More disturbing genders can be found here.)
What would have a shot at saving the wiki
I don't think Fandom is trying to be anti-freedom or anti-happiness. Instead, certain topics are seen as too risky or disturbing. Hosting things like "gore gender" isn't something they're comfortable with doing. And I can see why things like "self-harm is a gender" are seen as concerning.
To give this wiki a chance at staying open, it would probably need:
New rules, like maybe "no pages about violent or self-harm genders" and "don't make unsourced claims about medical conditions"
The new rules to then be applied to this wiki's pages (for what it's worth, it seems like a lot of you are passionate about saving the wiki, so I bet you all could do it)
The rules to be enforced consistently, so any new rule-violating edits or pages are corrected (an organized community could achieve this)
What will Gender Wiki do?
I see this wiki's options as:
Work together with Fandom staff to change this wiki's rules to align with Fandom's evolving rules. Once rules are agreed on, apply them.
Move to another hosting platform like SkyWiki or ShoutWiki.
Let the wiki be deleted entirely.
Basically: change, move, or die.

Hi! I have recently seen a lot of trigger warnings on posts "added by moderators." I think it would be helpful if there was a full and definitive list of everything that needs a TW, because recently I have seen TWs for things not mentioned in the existing list. I am getting slightly exasperated because if I want to post, I feel like I will forget about a TW and then feel guilty. That has kept me from posting because I am anxious about doing something wrong. So again, I think it would be helpful for a full list of everything that needs a warning. Thank you!

EDIT: I also think it might be helpful to have a talk as a community about what we think we should require trigger warnings for. I have seen a few "added by moderator" warnings for things that are not in the guidelines.

How many days/months have you been active?: over one year, I believe, although I don’t remember the exact date I joined and would often leave for long periods near the start. I have been consistently active since around the middle of 2025, though.
What position are you applying for?: content moderator.
Why do you think you should be promoted?: I believe my editing skills are being limited with me not being able to edit certain protected pages, and I’d like to be able to clean them up myself.
Some need cleaning up, others have outdated information, some just use “ instead of ", and the other moderators are already juggling enough that I don’t wish to bother them with this.
I’m also very active on this wiki, being here nearly every day, and I believe I’m a trusted member of the community.
Any other information: I’m aware that — as of posting this — in my poll for a general consensus on whether I should apply for c-mod or not, the highest outcome was ‘someweek soon’.
However, we’ve recently had an influx of genders that either A., are trolls/appear to be trolls, or B., don’t follow the Examplegender page and editing guide, which has guided my hand to applying sooner than I might’ve otherwise. I hope to be able to handle these pages myself rather than constantly sharing their links with the other mods to deal with.
And, with /@Fragments-of-GreenHill being a d-mod now (congratulations, again), I’m no longer as worried as I was to leave only one d-mod behind.

I recently came up with the gendercritter system and am interested in putting it on the wiki. However, I have many terms underneath it that will be coined by me too, and I don't really like making pages on Fandom wikis (it feels tedious, especially considering how many I'll have to make if I do this on my own).
I'd appreciate help! The gendercritter system itself will be coined tomorrow at 2:00 PM EST, and coining of terms that fall under it will start Monday at 11:00 AM. Twelve terms are in my queue just between the start of Monday and the end of Tuesday... gullp... The terms will be coined on Tumblr by crys-coinprophet.
