Uninstalled after realising it is a Russian propaganda piece. You cannot play the Ukrainian side. Would be nice to get a refund. I will hide the game from my library.

It is quite clearly a Russian propaganda piece, but it plays like Syrian Warfare, following a single characters "story". I have enjoyed it. Its pretty good for what it is and its price point.

Game itself is ok. But they put in complains (pop ups with "historical info") of the Ukraine army using civilian busses to get to the airport so if they where attacked the news can say Russia attacked civilians.

When in reality Russians executed civilians in Bucha 1 month later......

For now thumbs down, i get a refund and i hope they fix the propaganda parts, good change i will get it again in the future without propaganda and at a discount.

Classic russian propaganda game, but it's a good RTS game. Slightly buggy with some AI pathing from time to time but I've seen worse. If you liked 'Syrian Warfare' or older RTS games like 'Blitzkrieg' and 'Sudden Strike' then I'd say this is a good modern take on -that- type of RTS game.

Only played the first mission. Can be quiet challenging from time to time, and sometimes just crazy RNG on if your RPG hits a target or not. But there's a wide selection of 'medals' you can grant your units after combat (Completing a mission) that boosts moral, health and other RPG elements to your units. As well as using your after combat points on upgrading your units with RPGs, bodyarmor, COMMS and other stuff that boosts your unit(s). Something that makes completing objectives worth in my opinion.

7.9/10. Hopefully more stuff gets added to the game over time, perhaps COOP for the missions etc.

Bottom line, if you're interested in the things mentioned above, I'd recommend it.

Its pretty fun, if you ever played syrian warfare or terminator dark fate, you know what your getting. the only thing i dont like is the russian supremacy viewpoint constantly being thrown in your face, acting like if russia was invaded that they wouldnt also do all the ♥♥♥♥ they are claiming ukraine is doing. but at the end of the day, its a fun war game and i give it a thumbs up.

Wonk in places but a lot of fun for the price.
Obviously it's on the nose, if you're not ready to hear about evil ukrainians committing warcrimes every mission don't buy. If you don't care about that then there's a lot to enjoy.
Plays like Terminator Dark Defiance and Syrian Warfare. However its a lot more forgiving I find as fresh generic troops are near unlimited in a lot of missions.

Well, Gostomel Heroes is definitely step-up from the Syrian Warfare, even if it's relatively short (only six missions, but OH MAN they throw handful of challange sometime). Played a little EA of Front Edge (For free because Cats Who Play are based AF and made it so for everyone on VK), which is basically the multiplayer version of it with the RU and US forces. So, we've got:
Pros:

+UAZ-452 my beloved (too bad it'll be avialable for 1 mission)

+Unit customisation: now you can edit the weaponry, give additional equpment( like extra ammo, or armour) and perks for command points.

+Moral system: if under fire infantry gets shocked, pinned in place or goes for full haul-ass retreat. It's quite useful when dealing with special squads (LIKE THE BLOODY ATGMS).

+New stuff and features: recon drones( both copter and plane like), command squad that gives moral boost and calls in artillery and probably some extra stuff that I forgot.

+Missions: few in number, but challenging and complex. No spoilers here, but expect that objectives will change fast.

+Characters and voice over: It's quite good actually, well if you play with the original RU voices, recon squad speaking "What's that oinking in the bushes?" was absolute kino.

+ Story: Can be divided into two parts: intermission briefings and the storyline in the missions themselves. First one focuses on the retelling the events of that time period from the Russian side of conflict (without omiting losses and failures). Is it propaganda? Well, you believe what you believe, my opinion here won't change it anyway. Second part of the story is focused around the main characters "Plamya" (Flame) and Vulkan and is quite grounded, no spoilers here either.

+Overall atmosphere: Late February, early March, so it is quite gloomy and melancholic, which fits the tone of the story.

+OST, it just goes well with the overall vibe.

+Achievements: Simple to get, so its a + if you're into that kind of thing.

Cons and room for improvement:

- Ally AI, too aggressive, especially with vehicles.

- Can't order individual infantry units to take certain positions in the building, like ordering the ATGM or SaPoG squad to watch the road and infatry to cover the backside. So far you can command them to cover 1 side only.

-Scripting at times is palpable, so if you don't kill off some units entirely, new ones won't spawn, or enemy units waiting for their turn at times might be bewildering, also you can cheese it easily. Which I did.

-Long loading times (30-60 secons) even with SSD might be annoying.

- Vehicle cook-offs, so if the main cannon of the vehicle is 30 mm and above, expect it to explode when it catches fire, which is does regulary from the RPG and ATGM hits, that makes capturing vehicles harder and more time consuming compared to the SW. No more vehicle hoarding(

As the afterword:

It is the first but not the least story campaign of the Ukrainian Warfare series, next part will take place in Mariupol, so if you enjoyed the Gostomel Geroes, go watch "At the edge of the abyss" documentary which covers those events.

Cats who Play once again released an amazing and engaging RTS. The gameplay and graphics were definitely a step up from their previous games, as was the cover system. Happy to see ATGM and RPG effects and visuals being upgraded. The troops, vehicles and equipment looked great; it was interesting to see Ukrainian vehicles modeled after their indigenous production builds. The maps were beautiful, and some of the recreations were amazing and precise (the airport, the Kiev-Zhytomyr highway gas station area, and more).

I could still feel the idea of the chaotic battlefield through the implementation of multiple changing simultaneous objectives, which forced you to make decisions and prioritize some areas. Enemy units can find gaps in your defense and sometimes attack from unexpected angles; however, it could be interesting to have a more dynamic enemy AI that prods defenses actively, while withdrawing and maneuvering. Reconnaissance followed by fire support on the advance is key to success in this game. I wish I made better use of the command teams and their skills; they came in later in the game so I got used to calling in my veteran troops instead. It would also be good to be able to orient troops in buildings properly in a certain direction, and order them to occupy a certain floor (for ATGM, weapon teams and sniper teams especially). Despite its shortness, the campaign was engaging and fun to play, and the dialogue (in Russian) really contributed to it. Plamya and Vulkan especially were nicely done. Would love to lend a hand for the voice acting.

I really liked the customization of troops, and the changing backgrounds as the missions moved locations. Small touches like thesemake games feel alive. You get attached to your upgraded troops and want to keep them alive. Would be fun to add some customization to vehicles as well.

Looking forward to the DLCs and other game modes. There are many significant battles to narrate and bravery to immortalize. All this being said, may peace reign soon and good men return home.

Wishing the best to this developper and hoping to see more from them!

EDIT : forgot to mention that I was happy to hear EDLISE's music style again. The soundtrack fits perfectly with the game and its vibe.

A semi-realism focused tactical game. It's more polished than Syrian Warfare with far fewer bugs and more modern game mechanics. The graphics are mildly dated. The gameplay is very complex and there are multiple ways of approaching tactical problems. The scale is finer than some competitors like Broken Arrow, focusing on platoon and company level gameplay rather than battalion level. It is challenging in a good way. The game doesn't throw anything at you that you can't handle, but if you made bad decisions somewhere along the way in a mission it will punish you for it. It goes unsaid, but unlike many games where at all times your goal is the current objective, in this one you will be doing yourself a favor by exceeding the objectives and establishing control over parts of the map you weren't yet asked to capture, sitting around instead of seizing the initiative is a way to give the enemy time to prepare.

The morale system is a fantastic addition and is well implemented, allowing some weapons to serve as a force multiplier by shocking enemy infantry and drastically changing the outcome of what would otherwise be uneven fights.

Other than keeping burnt equipment and corpses from disappearing, this is the first game in a long time that I don't feel the need to mod because the base game is good enough.

Also, nice to play as Russia for once.

期待了很久的游戏,之前front edge也免费玩乐很久,很高兴补票。
优点:
-和叙利亚战争相比,当然在画面上升级了很多,同时呼吁能重制叙利亚战争,并且加上2024年的剧情;
-装备系统和勋章升级系统也继承了终结者的特点,可玩性更高,但是装备系统升级还没有覆盖载具,建议补上;
-士气系统使得类似于“全面战争”的阵型和包抄玩法有更显著的收益,这是非常大的创新,轻装载具的作用可以更好发挥。
缺点:
-游戏核心玩法之一是团队培养,尤其是抢夺对方载具兵积累下来,但是殉爆概率太大了,建议降低,同时增加每关可保留的部队的格子(看到已经有mod出来了);
-可以使用的部队和载具种类太少了,虽然说是为了符合史实才这么做,但是至少给玩家一些选择的空间;
-缺少遭遇战模式;
-故事叙述能力相对于叙利亚战争下降不少,缺少关键角色的刻画,不够打动人。
