Director John Woo's production company Tiger Hill Entertainment has joined with Clive Barker to create Demonik, a new franchise set to become a film and a game for next-generation consoles.

In Demonik the game, a third-person action title, players take the role of a big nasty bad guy, causing mayhem using "spectacular powers and abilities." Terminal Reality (BloodRayne) is handling game development, and Majesco will publish the title sometime in 2006.

At the same time, in addition to assisting with the game, Clive Barker is overseeing a Demonik film. Barker will manage story, character designs, cinematics and voice talent -- and the noted author also retains the option to write and direct the film. No news yet on when the movie will appear.

"Demonik will be an intense gaming experience," said Barker. "I'm having a lot of fun enriching the game's mythology and polishing the characters till they shine. And, of course, adding a little bit of Barker darkness. Demonik promises to be a game that you will play with clammy palms."

Clive Barker isn't new to game design. In 2000, the horror master offered PC gamers Clive Barker's Undying, a first-person shooter featuring Barker's distinct storytelling and plenty of terrifying moments.

"Clive is known for creating great and horrific villains. In the game, you get to play the villain, and in the movie, you will be terrified by him," states Brad Foxhoven, president and co-founder, along with Woo, of Tiger Hill Entertainment.

Tiger Hill is considering a Demonik graphic novel as well as other merchandise, though none of it has been finalized. We'll be back with more on the franchise as news comes in, so keep your attention where we want it: right here.
