If you remember, the Fappening happened at the exact same time. moot, being a wise and capable leader, had built up a substantial legal “war chest” in the years prior - no easy feat given how much 4chan has always been forced to struggle financially. We burned through all of it dealing with celebrity legal threats. We had nothing left in the tank to deal with any potential tactical lawsuits from GG people. One frivolous lawsuit at that time and we would have been done. No one was going to come to our rescue in 2014. More importantly, it wasn’t the right time and it wasn’t the right fight. More work had to be done philosophically before these creatures could be pushed back and the tide could be turned. A “long march” was needed, not just a bunch of anons raging at a few corrupt gaming journalists for a few weeks. Keeping 4chan alive long term was the right decision, however bitter it seemed at the time. Otherwise things would have been very different in 2016 and the years after. Lose a battle, win the war.
