Duo gunning for Fox

Feature team take aim at hourlong drama

Feature scribe Sheldon Turner is teaming with helmer-producer John Woo for an hourlong drama project set up at Fox Broadcasting.

Untitled hour, from Woo’s 20th Century Fox TV-based Lion Rock Prods., is described as an epic “Traffic”-style saga set in the world of guns, examining how the movement and sale of weapons impacts the lives of various people. Characters include a Wall Street banker, a street hustler, a fast-rising ATF agent and a gun show model who gets sucked into the dark side of the gun trade by a weapons overlord.

Turner, who’s writing “The Longest Yard” for Paramount and Happy Madison Prods., will write and exec produce the project, with Woo and production partner Terence Chang also set to exec produce. Woo is eyeing the possibility of directing the pilot if his production sked permits.

Lion Rock is also a producer on the “Lost in Space” project from 20th and Synthesis that’s currently generating multiple network bids (Daily Variety, Sept. 24).

Endeavor-repped Turner said manager J.C. Spink inspired him to create the project by sending him some info about the gun trade.

“The focus of the show will be three characters involved in the business of peddling guns on some level,” he said. “What they all have in common is that they’re trying to get closer to these weapons.”

Turner’s upcoming feature projects include “Pursuit” at MGM and Warner Bros.’ “Overtime,” to which Ashton Kutcher is attached to star.
