r/degoogle doesn't ban discussing GrapheneOS. r/privacy bans any mention of GrapheneOS or even alluding to it as malicious compliance with the site-wide Reddit rules. Please don't blame the r/degoogle mods for this.

Reddit admins were going to require them to stop permitting personal harassment towards us so they banned discussing GrapheneOS as a whole instead. Reddit is far less likely to take action about them banning discussing it, especially since they banned discussing other AOSP-based projects to mask their goal.

Grapheneos isnt playing the game so they're going to face a lot of pressure. Ill drop Reddit before I drop GOS

What’s “the game” you refer to that would keep them out of those subs? Not arguing, genuinely unsure what you mean.

The rule was openly added specifically to target GrapheneOS and they added other operating systems to make it seem less ridiculous. It's most strictly enforced for GrapheneOS. They also misrepresented it as being something we wanted to happen when that's absolutely not the case. We wanted them to do their job moderating harassment content as required by Reddit and instead they banned discussing GrapheneOS.

Are those banned by reddit or my mods? What is the reason for ban?

Campaign plans in docs. Tasks in another tool. Feedback in Slack. ClickUp brings your marketing work into one place so your team can move faster.

Yup, got my comment removed on r/privacy. Main post was about the age verif in iOS 26.4. One guy was asking what to do with android, so I suggested grapheneOS - but mentioned beeing unsure, what will the apps do (if they would rely on a system level age verification).

Boom, removed, rule 8, discussion of alternative mobile systems not allowed.

I swear, that I saw some posts/comments about GOS on r/privacy before...

For a while they were kinda relaxed about it and you got by with describing but not outright naming it.

But then they got more restrictive and I got a 5 day ban

But what's the reason for the rule?

Yeah that’s insanely ridiculous. What makes an OS an alternative OS? Would we be allowed to talk about GOS once it’s popular enough? iOS only has 26% of the global market share, so is it an alternative OS?

Given that an OS - any OS - is a *major* factor in everyone's privacy these days it feels ridiculous to me, but then I'm not on r/privacy and haven't read all their rules. For all I know they are talking about other aspects of privacy and want to keep nerd holy wars out of the sub, which would be entirely understandable and highly precedented because nerds can be total dicks on subjects like that.

What're they gonna do if Motorola starts shipping phones with it? Then it's not alternative anymore.

Apparently it's not GrapheneOS specifically, just any alternative OS.

That's why there is pinned comment from AutoModerator to point us away from Reddit to GOS forum.

There were persistent trolls acting in bad faith and attempting to discredit GrapheneOS on the privacy subreddit. So we asked the mod team there to deal with it, they took it the wrong way and took this rather extreme measure instead. If anyone has a good rapport with them let me know, we are of course open to talking it out.

GrapheneOS has moved from Reddit to our own discussion forum. Please post your thread on the discussion forum instead or use one of our official chat rooms (Matrix, Discord, Telegram) which are listed in the community section on our site. Our discussion forum and especially the chat rooms have a very active, knowledgeable community including GrapheneOS project members where you will almost always get much higher quality information than you would elsewhere. On Reddit, we had serious issues with misinformation and trolls including due to raids from other subreddits. As a result, many posts on our subreddit currently need to be manually approved, which is done on a best effort basis. If you would like to get a quicker answer to your question, please use our forum or chat rooms as described above. Our discussion forum provides much better privacy and avoids the serious problems with the site administrators and overall community on Reddit.

Please use our official install guides for installation and check our features page, usage guide and FAQ for information before asking questions in our discussion forum or chat rooms to get as much information as possible from what we've already carefully written/reviewed for our site.

Where might be a good place to follow GrapheneOS if not on Reddit?

The fuck is an alternative OS/ROM these noobs are worried about? GOS, Lineage, eOS are not alternatives, they are a bunch of operating systems alongside stock Android and iOS.

More replies

r/privacy is removing all mentions of 'alternative' phone OS's, not just Graphene but also all custom roms, competitors etc.

With how often the same questions about GOS and other alternatives to stock come up all the time in r/degoogle I can kinda see it, shit get's annoying fast when people cant be arsed to do the tiniest bit of research.

Still no reason in my book to ban it

I was already looking at a Pixel 8 Pro for Graphene, this makes me want to try it even more.

Are we to conclude that r/privacy and r/degoogle actually DONT want privacy and degoogling?

More replies

Their moderators are corrupt assholes acting against their users interests, many such cases. They're such dogmatic lunatics about it that they will comb through years old posts and moderate you even for oblique indirect references to GOS.

This seems coordinated. GOS is being attacked all over the place.

Making another donation in defiance.

We need a Reddit decentralised replacement

https://discuss.grapheneos.org/ is available specifically for GrapheneOS which is essentially decentralization. It's a much better platform than this subreddit and far more active.

I haven't noticed it on /degoogle, but /privacy is trash and has been for ages.

There's a reason there's a stereotype for a Reddit mod.
