After years of haggling, Fairfax County officials expect to acquire title to the former Lorton Correctional Complex by Monday, culminating a purchase that officials say will eventually transform what was once a sprawling prison farm into a vast park and recreational area.

With payment of the second installment on a $4.23 million purchase price negotiated with the federal government, Fairfax will receive about 2,440 acres of prime land west of Interstate 95 in the southern part of the county.
