Youngkin on political future: ‘I have more to give’

Former Virginia Gov. Glenn Youngkin (R) made clear he’s ready to return to public office just weeks after finishing his term and leaving the governor’s mansion.

In a preview of his interview on the “Hang out with Sean Hannity” podcast — which was recorded a few weeks ago but is set to be released in full on Tuesday — the former governor discussed life as a civilian and what he sees in his political future.

“I have more to give. I just do,” Youngkin told Hannity on the Fox News podcast.

“The one year of campaigning and the four years of running — so five years — went by in five seconds,” he said. “It was amazing. Every morning, I woke up literally bounding out of bed, ready to roll. And that was the most purposeful I’ve ever felt in my whole life.”

Youngkin said he took his wife, former Virginia first lady Suzanne Youngkin, on a vacation that he said was “so deserved,” calling her “one of the best first ladies in America.”

“But six weeks has felt like six years,” he added. “I’m just chomping at the bit.”

Democrat Abigail Spanberger succeeded Youngkin in January, beginning a four-year term as Virginia’s governor.

Governors are prohibited from serving consecutive terms in Virginia, but they may run for office again in a future election.

Youngkin would be eligible to seek a second term as governor in 2029, or he could enter the wide-open GOP presidential primary in 2028 — though he did not explicitly discuss either possibility in the clip released Monday.

Hannity raised the possibility of joining the Trump administration and asked the former governor if he’s spoken to President Trump about the prospect.

Youngkin said he has a good relationship with Trump but said the topic was last raised while he was still serving as governor. At the time, Youngkin said, they talked about Youngkin finishing out his term.

“What he and I talked about before I was done was me finishing,” Youngkin said.

“And I always deeply respected him because he believed that when I told him I needed to finish, that I was committed to it, and he was going to let me do it,” Youngkin continued. “And so that was one of those moments where he reminds us that he hears you and he can respect what you’re saying. And I just always appreciated that.”

Trump recently ousted two Cabinet members — former Attorney General Pam Bondi last week and former Homeland Security Secretary Kristi Noem last month — raising suspicions of future Cabinet shake-ups.

But Trump warned against reading into reports that more firings could be coming in a phone interview with The Hill on Sunday.
