Former CIA director: ‘Russia no longer has the upper hand’ in Ukraine war 

Former CIA Director David Petraeus said Russia no longer has the “upper hand” in the war against Ukraine in a recent interview describing Moscow’s receding strength. 

“I think what’s remarkable is that Russia no longer has the upper hand,” Petraeus said in an interview published Monday by CBS.

“Russia heavily outnumbers Ukraine. It outguns Ukraine. It has an economy 10 or 12 times the size of Ukraine’s. And yet the Ukrainian forces right now are stopping the Russians cold on the front lines,” he added.

The war in Eastern Europe has lasted more than four years. International mediators have failed to quell the conflict in spite of several ceasefire proposals. 

The Kremlin has struck Kyiv repeatedly in its push to acquire the Donetsk, Luhansk, Zaporizhzhia and Kherson regions. 

Kyiv has been using its Delta battle management platform to identify targets and use digital maps to launch successful strikes, CBS reported.

Petraeus said more than 400 drones and dozens of missiles were fired the morning of his interview with CBS and said glide bombs are incoming every night. 

“But on the front lines, which is all important, the Russians have actually achieved less than the Ukrainians have in the last two weeks,” he added.

Reports say Russian President Vladimir Putin has been actively engaged with Iran during its war with the U.S. and Israel. Moscow has provided intel to Tehran as the battle for influence in the Middle East persists.
