wtf happened to small phones. even a samsung galaxy s10 was still too big. the iphone 4 was perfection.
>>
>>108530295 (OP)
I spent a year with an old iPhone SE like 2 years ago and it was the absolute best experience I had after years of bullshit big phones that felt like a fucking roof tile in my hand
too bad it's so old, I'd still be using it otherwise
>>
>>108530303
> that felt like a fucking roof tile in my hand
xD thanks for the hearty kek anon. yeah it does feel like im a tiler or some shit holding my nubia redmagic 10 pro i get that its "enterntainment" form but FUCK i miss tiny phones

I'm still using my 2016 SE because its not yet lost app support for what I want, and they don't make phones this size anymore
>>
Just get a Samsung flip then. There is no reason to complain when there are many viable options outside of the Apple ecosystem.
>>
>>108530366
>flip
no thank you. also when its open which is what it would be 99% of the time id be using it its the size of a brick bro. im actually mad you would recommend that to me. its insulting

I feel like the Pixel 4a was the perfect size. I have an 8 now and it fucks up my jean pockets; the 4a never did that.
>>
>>108530437
1. Those phones are gigantic.
2. There's a very small difference between the 4a and the 8 aside from the camera bump.

>>
>>108530295 (OP)
as much as I hate apploo, iPhone 5 was the peak phone design. nothing comes close except maybe them older flippies.
>>
>>108530295 (OP)
Loud minority sadly. Sales do not reflect the shift we see online.
iPhone 5 with an edge to edge display would be peak phone.
>>
>>108530516
The difference may look small in that comparison image, but I have both the 4a and the 8 in front of me and it definitely makes a difference.
I had an iPhone 5s before, but after getting used to the size of the 4a, I can't go back.
>>
>>108530605
thats literally the iphone 17

Bigger screens are more likely to retain your attention, new phones are designed for no other reason than to siphon your spirit.

if thats true theyd make a tv sized phone then and have you control it with that facebook wristband tech instead
>>
>>108531143
No because a tv isn't portable? They are maximizing the size/portability ratio since the point is to have you glued to your screen at all times, even outside you home.
>>
>>108530295 (OP)
People use their phones to consume content now, netflix, tiktok and such.. So mainstream phones are going to be big. Small phone market isn't completely dead though, uniherz exists.

There aren't any small phones so none are made
>>
I got the S23 precisely because of this.
I couldn't tolerate the amount of phones going with 6.7 and such. I barely ever consume media on my phone. I play games that don't need a fuckhuge screen. If I really wanted to do things like read or browse on the go I'd get a small tablet. But this is what these phones practically are now.
Nowadays I considered getting one of those motorola razr ones with the flippity screen, but my dad went through 2 Galaxy Z Fold phones and and they both have these creases in the middle of the screen. I don't know that I can enjoy that much and it seems like a big gimmick to make up for the lack of small phones available. Which will net me a weaker phone if I want something for 600 bucks to replace my current S23. I have no replacement for this. What else is there? This is so fucking stupid.
>>
>>108530295 (OP)
apparently normies use the phone as a computer instead of having an actual computer

NO
I DON'T CARE WHAT IT LOOKS LIKE IN AN AD
i need to be be able to hold the damn thing
>>
>>108530295 (OP)
I agree, in 2021-2022 I was using an iphone SE and that shit was peak + a flex while everyone had their bricks you got an actual phone sized phone. Too bad it was already too old at a time and the battery was giving out
>>
>>108530295 (OP)
For the average consumer: phones replaced computers
They might even side with you now but I wouldn't trust them not to bitch about it later if companies were to fall back to a smaller model.
>>
>tfw the only small phones I can find worth a shit are iPhones
god fucking dammit
I don't want to get into their ecosystem
>>
>>108531503
what gets to me the most is the way this utility-this tool that i can use to communicate with people-has expanded such that it now wants to take over my life. we broke the bell system up because they were a monopoly apparently but they only dreamed of the power that apple and google now have.
i don't just want a physically small phone. i want one with a small impact on my life. i want one with a small remit, that does what it does and does it well, that isn't designed and doesn't constantly change in ways that benefit someone who isn't me. apparently i'm the only one.

Rip to Asus they would have made more small phones if people actually bought them
>>
>>108532174
They should make one so the people could buy it. The first company to do one will completely corner the market

This has been my daily driver for coming up on 2 years. I love this fucker like you wouldn't believe.
>Eased my phantom vibrations

Downsides are I have to mindful of power consumption, but Im never far from a charger. They run a secondary power management app that will close your apps all the time so be sure to turn that shit off for important apps like your mp3 player and wireguard, or else you will enjoy some angry confusion when android's settings don't hold lmao.
Idk if I can ever go back to a large phone. I was looking at the Clicks Communicator vs Unihertz Titan 2 Elite and decided I'm just gonna stay on the jelly star until it crumbles. Need to see if the update to 16 will prevent OEM root, not that I've bothered to root it on 13 lol

Do people with those new flip phones often use the smaller external screen?
>>
>>108532130

i had a few of these, the snapdragon chips in them ran so hot that the adhesive on the displays would melt and cause phantom touch/eventual disconnection
>>
>>108531204
god i had one (jelly) and it sucked hard
but that is the whole point for extremely small ones
i really liked xz1 compact from sony tho

> thats literally the iphone 17
Uh, akschualli, that’s literally the iPhone 12/13 mini!
A device that even Apple seems to have forgotten. If you think liquid ass is bad, try running it on a mobile phone instead of a phablet. Hence, iOS 17 4lyf.
>>108531300
> i need to be be able to hold the damn thing
Works surprisingly well. Being able to do most stuff one handed really helps.
I seriously don’t get huge phones. I can do everything my gf can do on her huge 17. And even though I’m 5 generations behind it’s just as fast in everyday use. Hell, my 12 mini is faster than the latest gen, since I’m running a usable OS on it and not liquid ass which is the word mobile OS you could imagine.
>>
>>108532331
I'd assume it's mostly used as a status/notification screen like it was with old flip phones.

>use the phone as a computer instead of having an actual computer
I edit CAD files on my phone and send it to my 3D printer over internet. And yeah I prefer bigger screen. And a good girthy camera allows me to take really good astronomy pics from my pocket computer
>>
Apparently the iPhone Mini didn't sell very well. And the entire industry has to copy Apple so no small phones for anybody.
>>
No idea how people use the giant phones. I have average sized hands and I still use an iphone 7 and I feel the dimensions are just right, every current flagship I considered getting felt like I'd need to use both hands and that kind of defeats the purpose of a phone, I think.
>>
>>108537587
Yeah people complain they want smol phones but they don't buy them en masse. So they don't get made. You had many chances, Apple did the Mini for two years and basically no one (except me, I bought a 13 Mini) bought one.

Combine those with only a phone wanting a large(ish) screen to consume their slop and increased tooling costs for smaller devices with this lack of demand and you get the status quo of relativity large phones.
>>
>>108530295 (OP)
I had a 6.9" phablet (remember that word?) with a 16:9 screen (with sharp, square corners!), it was my favorite media phone ever. The battery is so old/dead now that it gets stuck boot-looping and can't even be used plugged in.
>>
Just use an iPod touch with wifi
