Okay, why did you (three people brand new to bsky) launch this today, deciding that you should be the ones in charge of Keeping Us Safe, when there is already an established culture here which it doesn't seem you did much work to look into?

We may not know bsky as well as the rest of you, but our team has extensive (multiple combined decades) experience dealing with Kiwi Farms harassment, and monitoring in real-time the attacks they're doing, and we 100% intend to stick in our lane there.

Somewhat familiar with the Contraption and aegis, yes. We believe that (1) being accountable for our decisions and explaining them, and (2) being open about who runs the account and how to reach us, will help people form informed opinions about our work.

What would you suggest doing in the face of our common enemy sowing panic and chaos by making people think from a drive-by like from a troll account that KF is onto them and they will soon have a thread on them and their life will be ruined, even if they block immediately? We had to spin up in a hurry because KF were specifically targeting me with their wave of transphobic alts that also had the display name "kiwifarms[.]net". I respect your point of view about collaboration, but it's a scramble when a dozen new alts with your own face on them are terrorising others.

Respectfully, you asked what you should have done differently. Thats the answer. And your response was completely unmeasured. You kicked in a door, asserted authority, and went on the attack. Those were decisions that were made.

Ill go a step further: you refer to a decade of shared experience with the subject matter, but this response seemed panicked. Youre saying your response had to be spun up in a hurry. None of that experience prepared yall for this? None of that experience taught yall to move carefully?

I'll admit (I can't speak on behalf of all three of us) that there was a lot on our plate this morning, and also we didn't expect things to spiral so large so quickly and outside our own bubble. This was primarily a self-defence measure that then got big while I was minding another fire.

Fwiw, the transgender community here has been weathering attacks from transphobes since the site's inception 2 years ago or so. It is that "i had to protect the community" mentality, paired with a heavy handed and brash response with no senae for the history that really is the crux of the problem.

Valid. I know only my own experiences with having the shitstorm follow wherever I go, and was trying to defend myself with those tools. I understand you have other tools that work better from your experience here, although not necessarily the exact same actors.

I understand your assertion. But it reads like you think KF only became aware of bsky like this week and i would argue that, from experience, thats far from the case. I might be misunderstanding, but thats what it reads like.

Not quite the statement I'm making; I know KF has been aware of and harassing people on bsky for a long time, but this week with the Great Twitter Migration/eternal september saw increased KF momentum behind organised trolling of the newcomers to bsky (including me)

we were tracking posts by multiple users (incl Watch Bsky Die, created Nov 15, 2024) spelling out how to do campaigns on bsky (which wouldn't have worked because blocklists do not work that way but anyways), and also a new thread in proving grounds specifically on bsky which did not exist before.

For instance, this was spotted within a few hours and raised for the ENH Board's attention. The plan would not have worked, but was an indication they intended to try the plan.
