Q&A
Head canon: First place finisher watching second placer's over-the-top celebration.
They trained their ass off, completely wrecked their body just to eke out a win. Yet the runner up is the only one with joy. Victory is about as sweet as a handful of ash in their mouth and the bile coming along with it. All their efforts were for what? The dissatisfaction? The anticlimactic moment? They pushed everyone away and no one else is there to celebrate with them. Their victory is as valuable as the fake gold paint on the medal, as sturdy as the plastic underneath and as comfortable as the ribbon scraping a groove across their skin
Oh god now this somehow made me feel worse than the original interpretation
S-tier narration
Holy shit
According to research, both 1st and 2nd place winners tend to be worse off in later years, while 3rd place is happier. 1st place keep trying to retain their glory and may psych'd themselves into depression if they lack behind. 2nd place keep trying because they were so close and yet so far. 3rd place "hell fucking yeah I got price!".

Does this mean Nice Nature is the happiest horse out there?
She got that smol pink horse energy
The kinesio tape is a really nice touch. I love this piece.
Track is kinda funny though. It sucks to lose, but most of the time your rivals end up being good friends. It’s a small community and you’re running against a lot of the same people for years. I still think about my competitors sometimes, and where they are now all these years later.
The real rivalry is sprinters vs distance - lazy prima donnas vs. masochistic weirdos.
ykb
cross country competitor dynamic when i ran in school was so chill like its awesome
Runners high keeps you chill; never been mad about someone my height and weight lifting heavier than me either. If you dedicate enough time to a sport, you understand just how difficult it is to hit those goals; so when you see them achieved even in someone else, it's hard to be mad.
I don't know if it's like this everywhere, but my varsity cross country competitions were scored by adding together the scores of your team's runners, low score wins. It made for very good team dynamics, because while you still sorta were competing against your team, eveyones effort mattered
If only she were half horse
well now she needs to sing and dance in front of a large audience.
I'm sure that would be a special week if that ever happened.
Umas incoming

The character is Hanami Saki from game Gakuen Idolmaster. She is an athlete. She is known for being a fast learner, but not being the best and being a number 2. Even the game canonically call her "2位の人", becoming meme in the community.
She has a sister, Hanami Ume, who is in contrast being a slow learner, but being the best once catching up.
These 2 are rivals and are always competing for something. Saki always win until Ume learns and Saki never won after that.
Adding, shamelessly promoting the game.
Try to listen to my favorite song from the game, SUNFADED. I think the song fits perfectly to this sub
omg its musume: pretty
that's Asuka (Eva) being angry at Nozomi (Hibike! Euphonium)
Men need to start wearing tight underwear to show off their great butt muscles in these events, that would be more fun and profitable for viewership. Swinging junk would be very dramatic and powerful.
Women are often fined or penalized for wearing shorts in televised events, getting backlash and less support. There are so many restrictions for all athletes on their clothes, longer or shorter, they don't really need a say on what works for them. /s
Thats why the original Greeks olympic was so goated
They do? Watch any track event and they’re all wearing bodysuits or spandex shorts for sprints, short shorts for distance.
Edit: To expand a little, athletes are generally given a choice of bottoms by their national team. There are bikini bottoms, various lengths of full coverage spandex shorts, full one piece suits, and traditional running shorts. If you watch any high level meet you will see a mix, even within teams. The athletes choose based on their own comfort and their event needs.

where's the evil and intimidating horse
I watched only a few olympic races ever but it usually ends with athletes cheering together and comforting each other
