Starting October 1, 2024, Indeed will introduce a significant policy update that affects how job traffic is managed on its platform. This change is pertinent to employers whose jobs are indexed on Indeed from external sources, such as a company career site, data feed, or an Applicant Tracking System (ATS).
For employers not using any system to auto-post on Indeed, you are still able to post for free directly on Indeed.
Here’s what you need to know:
Sponsorship Requirement for Direct Posts:
Any job openings that are posted directly on Indeed’s platform will now require sponsorship in order to receive visibility and traffic. This marks a departure from the current practice, where you were able to post for free on Indeed & have your career site/data feed/ATS also post for free on Indeed. You will now need to adjust how your direct job postings are managed.
Flagging of Non-Sponsored Jobs:
On October 1st, 2024 when the new policy is in effect, Indeed will start flagging new and already existing job posts that were directly submitted on its platform without sponsorship. To ensure these posts continue to receive traffic and remain visible to potential applicants, employers will be required to sponsor these listings.
Note: We suggest spending ≈$250/mo. per job post on Indeed. This should be increased if you are in a high-competition area on Indeed. Learn how to understand your competition rate on Indeed here.
Continuation of Free Traffic for Indexed Jobs:
It’s important to note that free traffic isn’t going away for all jobs. Job postings that are automatically indexed from external sources, such as your company’s career page or an ATS, will still be eligible to receive free traffic. This aspect of Indeed’s traffic management remains unchanged, providing a cost-effective avenue for employers to reach potential candidates.
Note: Augusta is partnered & integrated with Indeed, allowing all Augusta customers to opt-into Augusta's FREE Indeed ATS auto-posting. Reach out to hello@augusta.care if you would like to start having Augusta auto-post to Indeed on your behalf.
In Summary:
This policy change signifies Indeed’s efforts to refine its job posting and traffic system, aiming to benefit both employers and job seekers by ensuring that sponsored posts receive appropriate visibility. Employers are advised to review their current Indeed job posting practices in light of this policy update and reach out for support as needed to ensure a seamless transition.
