you cannot trust anything that is on archive today, archive is, archive ph, etc.
there is no accountability for it (anon owner), they host doxxing data and refuse to take it down, they alter things (defeating their one reason to exist), and they massively copyright infringe news sites etc.

The headline does not convey how completely batshit this story is. The Archive Today (archive.ph etc) admin weaponized the site's captcha to attack a blogger who wrote about them and *altered archived screenshots* as part of the attack.

they've made missteps before like their guerrilla book library during the pandemic, but they've never modified content they are archiving or pirated news sites by using leaked subscriber logins.

the problem is any such service would be illegal, would need to adopt a funding model similar to what crime networks do, and then how do you know they're not also going to pick up crime as a side business?
look, I'm all be gay do crimes as much as the next trans gal, but also organised cybercrime has a _lot_ of really really terrible and unsavoury parts to it involving some real harm to innocent human beings.

no dispute with people running sites like 12ft.io! but a more general archiver with an untrustworthy operator...
This is generally why I only use for looking at old webpages for preservation sake. I know they've had their missteps, as you outlined, but they still deliver a much higher quality product with way less baggage attached.
