    i was wondering where Thionville was, until i learned that Diedenhofen was its German name

    also it’s funny how St-Vith ended up becoming Belgian, i wonder how that happened

    Diedenhofen/Thionville was actually Luxbourgish-speaking, and had native speakers up until the 20th century. Nowadays, it has one of the highest rates of French people commuting to a foreign country for work.

    St. Vith went to Germany, but became a part of Belgium after WWI. It is part of the German-speaking community nowadays.
