It is with great sadness that we share the news of the passing of Yvonne Glover, former Hydrographer at Poole Harbour Commissioners, at the remarkable age of 108.

Yvonne was a trailblazer in her field, becoming the first female Hydrographer in the UK.

Yvonne dedicated around 40 years of her life to PHC, using a sextant to record her position in a small boat that was built specially for her. Her expertise and unwavering commitment left an indelible mark on Poole Harbour and on all those who had the privilege of working with her.

In addition to her professional accomplishments, Yvonne was an exceptional swimmer, achieving numerous accolades over the years. Her talent and determination in the water were admired by many and were a testament to her perseverance and spirit.

Today, as family and friends gather to say their final goodbyes at her funeral, we reflect on Yvonne’s remarkable life, her decades of service to Poole Harbour, and the incredible legacy she leaves behind.

We extend our heartfelt condolences to her loved ones and all who were inspired by her extraordinary career and achievements. She will be deeply missed but always remembered.

A lovely lady with an incredible memory. Sometime back she told me she was upgrading her computer software from Windows XP to Windows 7 because "XP is so slow, and when you are 96, you don't have much time left to wait around"!

I had the pleasure of meeting Yvonne on a number of occasions, she was an inspiring lady and its incredible to think she lived almost two adult lives.

Aunty Yvonne was a legend and she will always be remembered .In fact she was a role model for women for her time.

Amazingly she swam for England and just missed the 1936 Olympics She also has Glover's buoy in Poole Harbour

This is the wreath that Poole Harbour Commission sent to the church in the day of her funeral so we put it in a boat looking over Lake Rd as she loved to come here .
