Syracuse basketball forward plans to enter transfer portal (report)

Syracuse, N.Y. - Tyler Betsey plans to enter the transfer portal, according to a report by Joe Tipton.

Betsey, a 6-foot-8 forward from Connecticut, spent one season at Syracuse. He began his college basketball career at Cincinnati.

Betsey was SU’s best perimeter shooter last season. He shot 40.7% from the 3-point line. Syracuse’s next best 3-point threat was Nate Kingz at 36.7%.

Betsey averaged 6.7 points and 2.8 rebounds per game. He made 40.7% of his shots overall and shot 63.6% from the free throw line.

He will likely attract his share of suitors. His size and his ability to shoot the ball are valuable commodities.

The transfer portal does not officially open until Tuesday, the day after the NCAA championship game. But players are already making their intentions known.

Syracuse, thus far, has had three players announce they would enter the portal: Betsey, Aaron Womack and Tiefing Diawara. SU will also lose JJ Starling, William Kyle and Bryce Zephir, who are out of eligibility. Kingz, too, is technically out of eligibility; it’s unknown whether he has or will apply for another year of Division I basketball.
