Civilized homo sapiens also increased age of consent and marriage.

It's because homo sapiens knew that children and teens do not have completely functional brains until they hit their late teens, early 20s. Everyone who's ever had a child knows this all too well.
This long development is because the homo sapiens brain is so large and complex that it needs two decades to completely form and mature to full adult stage.
Our ancestors also knew that young teen girls and boys do not make responsible parents. Teens usually turn out to be abusive and make terrible parenting decisions. Anyone who is the child of a teen mother or father knows this.
