  • YouTube Broke the YouTube-Odysee Sync. We Built You Something Better.

YouTube has been actively throttling and blocking the automatic sync between your YouTube channel and Odysee. If you've noticed your videos aren't making it over anymore, that's not a bug on our end. YouTube decided they don't want your content living anywhere else.

    We disagree.

The Odysee Sync Tool is here.

Odysee Sync Tool (OST) is a lightweight desktop app that restores the automatic sharing/synchronization of your videos. Download it, sign in, and it handles the rest. It detects new uploads on your YouTube channel and mirrors them straight to your Odysee channel. No middleman. No permission from YouTube required.

    OST

    How it works:

    • The OST Auto-detects new videos on your YouTube channel and syncs them to Odysee
    • Runs in the background so you set it and forget it
    • Works on Windows, Mac, and Linux
    • Keeps your channel up to date without you lifting a finger after setup

If you'd rather keep uploading manually, that works too. But if you want the "set it and forget it" experience that YouTube just killed, this is your answer.

    OST

    Download Odysee Sync Tool

    • Windows: Download
    • Mac (Apple Silicon): Download | Mac (Intel): Download
    • Linux: AppImage | Binary
    • All downloads available here.

    In future:

The Odysee Sync Tool is the first piece of something much bigger. We're aiming to build this into a full Odysee Creator Studio: a dedicated hub for managing your content, channel, analytics and much more.

More on that later. For now, take care

    • the youtube sync feature holds this website back so much. why you've tunnel-visioned on this so hard for the past 5 years is beyond me.

let's visit odysee's front page to... watch automatically synced youtube videos. (literally every single one has the automated youtube link in the description.) videos which are tailor-made to youtube's censored algorithm. videos which load slower than they do on youtube. videos which include an uncensored comment section, which is pointless because the uploader hasn't acknowledged this website in years, and have probably forgotten it even exists (this website is nothing more than "a backup archive of my content" to them), so they'll never see your comment or interact with you.

but it's okay, because we can just toggle these off from our view- oh wait, no we can't!
but it's okay, because we can just search for what we want- oh wait, it's still awful!
but it's okay, because we can just use the sidebar recommendations- oh wait, they're still awful!

imagine if the sync tool never existed. let's visit odysee's front page to... watch exclusive content here that isn't available anywhere else. watch better quality videos from creators who aren't walking on eggshells 24/7 and can act their true uncensored selves. watch some of the same videos that are on youtube - from creators who actually care enough about odysee to manually upload them each time. (who will naturally interact with their audience here as a result.)

and then imagine if all this sync development time over the past five years was dedicated to making the search and recommendations work, so you could actually browse this place properly.

95% of this website is a mirror of youtube's content, and you seem interested in focusing on this 95% more than the 5% of creators here who would make it unique - aka make it worth visiting over youtube.

      why visit this website otherwise.
"let's visit odysee to watch youtube videos - includes numerous extra flaws that youtube doesn't have."

      • You can leave Odysee. There's no reason you have to be here.

      • Having an automated tool for self syncing is ultimately about creator freedom and ease of use. It's a really good think that Youtube creators can share their content on Odysee with ease. I imagine that tech creators especially will appreciate this feature.

      • I think u don't realize few important things about reality of why traffic comes to Odysee, very tunnel visioned. One, it's the naziest censoring of comments on YT, so large % of YT videos on Odysee is not an issue. In fact, for lower traffic site like Odysee, i prefer to comment on something rather than nothing, it's a pro for Odysee. Two, when ppl don't c much content on site, newcomers may simply jst not even bother cuz they jst don't want to go to two diff sites for videos, lazier ppl. They c larger content, they might hang around and try the site out. Three, watif, YT goes down, a day, or maybe permanently, where do u think they'll all rush to to find similar content, who can benefit massively, Odysee. Odysee isn't excluding unique creators. Their content will b here no matter it's synced or not. If anything, it can help them, as larger viewers due to larger amount of content will mean more possibility of their unique content being viewed by more ppl.

      • I use Odysee as a platform to watch the creators that I already know and have followed, I don’t want sidebar recommendations, especially if their intent is to keep me on the site longer than I intended (attention black hole). I think that the recommendation systems is based on video tags and for content which is tagged well they it is not bad, this is on the up loader/creator. I am sure the users of odysee do not want some algorithm like googles.

      • Anyone who makes content already uploads it to Youtube. No one's gonna go to a site they can't back up their Youtube videos to. Giving us automatic tool for it just makes it more practical & give Odysee a boost in content/users so viewers have something to come here for. Sure, a lot of the content here is backed up Youtube videos for now & maybe forever but there's no other way it was ever gonna be as long as Youtube is still the most popular video site. Besides, it's not like having been on Youtube is a sign of low quality.

      • I could not give two shits about JewTube sinc, I have to do the reverse of what everyone else out here does because what I teach and what I talk about is not entertainment it is subject matter that is deadly to the cabal and your masters. So, what I have to do is actually upload all of my streams onto Odysee, Rumble and FTJmedia as they are, THEN I have to video edit the fucking things if I want JewTube to let them say up at all.
I agree with you. Make the site better for reasons that only THIS site will do.
But, because a bunch of fools mass reported others a while back Odysee lost there payment provider.
Now, no one that I know streams here any longer because they can't get any revenue from it.
End of story, end of platform.

    • I understand that many creators are excited about this tool, and I certainly don't want to sound like a contrarian for the sake of it, but I must admit I'm not enthusiastic about this direction at all.

What is the ultimate vision for Odysee? Do we want it to be just a mirror of YouTube? A secondary dumping ground where YouTube remains the primary focus? Or do we want to build a confident, independent Odysee that fosters its own unique community?

In my view, if we simply automate the synchronization of videos from YouTube to Odysee, Odysee will never truly grow. If the content is identical and arrives here via a "set it and forget it" sync, viewers have no compelling reason to switch platforms. However, if creators choose to build their channels and communities exclusively here—leaving the censored, corporate environment of YouTube behind—consumers will be forced to come to Odysee to see that content.

It ultimately comes down to the philosophy of Odysee: what does it want to become? A YouTube copier, or a confident primary source? To build a real alternative, we need to stop treating this platform as a backup and start treating it as the destination. True growth comes from exclusivity and a dedicated community, not from being a mirror.

That's exactly the path I took. I decided to stop using YouTube as my primary platform. For a while, I only uploaded the first 6 minutes of my videos there as a teaser, directing people to Odysee to hear the rest. After about 6 months, I shut down my YouTube channel entirely.

The result? I successfully brought 11,000 people with me out of my original 24,000 subscribers. Granted, many people are lazy and prefer the convenience of the status quo, but if every creator made this leap, Odysee would experience massive, organic growth. We need to stop feeding the machine that silences us.

      • It is a fair point that Odysee and the open source community in general should attract more native born creators. With Odysee Self Sync Tool I like to think it's more about creator choice. If Youtube creators want to sync their content to Odysee, they should be able to do it with ease.

        You channel number are impressive.

        Log in to reply1015
      • As someone watching videos, one thing Odysee has going for it is a lack of ads without the need to subscribe. I don't know if that will continue indefinitely, but it is a benefit for me. That's a bit removed from
being a comment about their syncing tool, but I think it is part of the broader context.

        Log in to reply56
      • I say that this tool is necessary specifically FOR the people who's videos get taken down from YouTube. I say this is a powerful anti-censorship tool. As I said in other comments, should any crossposted video on YouTube get taken down, it'll be here on Odysee for people to find to comment and criticize censorship free.

And if this encourages native videos for Odysee instead of Odysee being a 3rd party media player for YouTube, then the search capabilities will become a lot better on Odysee. And unlike the last feature proposal of making Odysee a 3rd party media player for YouTube, this will actually increase growth and engagement for the platform. (At least I hope it will.)

      • I agree we need a "killer app" for odysee, it can't be just a mirror or a "uncensored mirror".

but moaning when something good is made is not helpful imho.

if you have a great killer app IDEA and what people to work on it - that is positive criticism that helps

    • YouTubers are willing prisoners of self-censorship and now Odysee mirrors this cancer over here via dodgy app and still odysee refuse to pay the creators.... do you want a medal for that superb achievement?

      • I've got to say that this is a step in the right direction. Maybe cash monetization will come next.

      • You can't pay if your bank savings are non-existent. How bout a canned ham for Christmas, sounds good?

        Log in to reply11
      • You nailed it with that comparison. It's the ultimate hypocrisy: so many YouTubers allow themselves to be censored and controlled just to keep the corporate crumbs falling from the table. Then, these same creators have the nerve to criticize politicians for being corrupt, while they are doing the exact same thing—trading their principles for a paycheck.

That said, I have to stand up for the Odysee team here. In my experience, they are fantastic. Their tech support is incredibly responsive and personal, which is something you just don't see elsewhere. They've built a platform that is technically miles ahead of BitChute or Rumble. My only fear is that they are being too cautious. They need to stop trying to be a "safe mirror" for YouTube refugees and start being a bold, independent destination. The platform is great, but the strategy needs to be as brave as the technology behind it.

    • WILL YOU STOP GOING ON ABOUT YOUTUBE???

There already IS a dedicated Odysee community, who upload exclusively here as Odysee don't censor like YT do... but I guess you don't care about your own community, you want the YT creators who already would be here if they wanted to.

    • I don't want any version of a video I've had to censor showing up here, which is why I always load the uncensored vid (if I've made one) manually to Odysee.

      Log in to reply2113
      • Nice. So sad that there are so very few like you. The majority of videos on Odysee are censored-for-corporatetube. As someone who hasn't gone to youtube since 2018 it boggles my mind hearing creators making themselves sound like retards to cater to the algorithm.

        Log in to reply12
    • If Odysee wants to compete they have to get creators that aren't just using the site as a secondary (or more) source. They aren't gaining viewers because all they are offering is YT 2. You have to provide something unique. I am on YT yes but I manually upload here because I am not using Odysee as a dumping ground. It's about freedom with my content and I create videos that are not always the same between YT and here. Odysee needs to find the viewers that are here to get away from YT and part of that is for creators that aren't just "sync it and forget it".

      Log in to reply90
      • As someone who uploads on both of these platforms, I agree. In fact I was thinking about doing several personal projects down the road that's mostly gonna be Odysee exclusive

        Log in to reply21
    • One big problem is that odysee still lingers in the stone age regarding codec upload. for example i just bought an AMD 9070xt and with that the good and updated codec AV1 but when i upload it to odysee there is issues for some people to watch. the very old h264 here on odysee and the very limited bitrate it allow is a joke. they need to put their resources on this. its sad that they still use the obselite codec in 2026.

It's like they own the content.

Why isn't US govt doing anything about it?

Never mind. I think I got the answer:

A new analysis of federal lobbying data by the nonprofit Tech Transparency Project shows that Google and its parent company, Alphabet Inc. used an internal reorganization to exclude the value of lobbying by its senior executives from disclosures. The move helped keep Google off the top of the lobbying charts even as it maintained a robust network of advocates pushing its interests in the capital, … - https://www.ndtv.com/world-news/google-finds-workaround-for-lobbying-rules-that-omit-big-bosses-9083310

Odysee Sync Tool (OST) is a lightweight desktop app that restores the automatic sharing/synchronization of your videos.…

That's a start. But why binary only? I was looking on the repo which license it is under & I found no source code or license.

Extracting the odysync-linux-amd64.tar.gz file gives me a OdyseeSync binary of 195M.

Is Odysee going to proprietary realm? Like YT does?

Odysee should be the opposite, releasing source code aggressively of everything under libre licenses.

Another minor thing. I don't know if it does it already, but I think it should keep the original YT video URL at the end of description, for reference purpose at least. Someone might use ytdlp sometimes when videos are just persons talking & very lengthy.

…No middleman. No permission from YouTube required.

I was wondering if people who are not channel owners could help. Esp. for circumventing blocks.

…We're aiming to build this into a full Odysee Creator Studio: a dedicated hub for managing your content, channel, analytics and much more.

Being able to edit videos in a native app should be performant than a browser, so sounds good.
What would be done for analytics on Odysee.com? Would more details be shown in app?

    • Youtube is the evil empire that must be crippled, destroyed, opposed by all the free thinking video platforms like Odysee, Rumble, bitchute, PeerTube, DTube, and others. I would like to see Youtube and Google burn down than bow down to them.

      Log in to reply40
    • As a creator who uploads to both platforms, this tool is going to save so much time.

I normally have to use Handbreak and encode the video into something Odessy will play without fuss. It does work, but it does come with some compromises. I've been uploading my videos at 1440p or 4K at 60 fps (mostly due to the better bitrate on 1080p videos). The only exception to that was my BotW + TotK video, where I didn't need 60 fps.

Now because I wasn't a part of Odysee's YouTube sync feature (when I first started uploading here), early uploads to the site were at 720p, 30 fps. I have gotten it to work at 1080p 30 fps, but I could never figure out how to get 60 fps without it looking like hot garbage. With this tool (assuming I can choose what I can sync), I most likely won't have to do that, and I am so happy that this is a thing.

    • Myself and everyone on LBS Entertainment love hearing this. While we don't make content on youtube, we see this as a good thing, to bring more attention to Odysee. I hope, as we all do, that monetization is coming sooner than later. While I am able to pay my bills and live, it would be nice to have all our content monetized to help improve the viewing experience. LBS Entertainment, as well as myself, could use the financial boost. It would also help get people to move to Odysee, instead of youtube. Monetization is a huge block for many people. Also, having the ability to upload 4K content would also be a nice plus. Keep up the good work Odysee team. I hope the issues mentioned get addressed soon, as I, and LBS Entertainment, only create content for here. We have plans for doing exclusive shows and movies for this platform, as well as getting things going for the new indie game studio. If monetization and 4K uploads happen soon, then we can really get moving on doing these things.

    • Man, I gave up on syncing ages ago. This new one probably works but I don't mind manually uploading stuff. Is it that hard to click a button a few times? I can see why that'd be a hassle for channels with thousands of videos though. So I guess I support it. But even so, half of the big youtubers who do have channels here (like SomeOrdinaryGamers and Cinemassacre) forgot Odysee even existed.

This isn't a failing on Odysee of course, but I wish Cinemassacre actually promoted Odysee rather it being in the hidden asscrack of his website. If a youtube OG like him promoted Odysee, it would do wonders for this great platform. But since there's no financial or popularity incentive to do it, I can see why he hasn't done that.

I suppose that's the unfortunate cycle of alt-tech. You want it to become popular, but because it's unpopular, no one wants to join it, thus it remains unpopular. Rinse and repeat.

    • Glad to see this! In the meantime, I had built my own tool using Python and the LBRY SDK. But it required space to store your videos on your device and you had to manually run it everytime you uploaded new content. I’ll have to check this out, but if it’s as advertised, it’s much easier and cleaner to use.

    • Sounds good.

I don’t know how hard it would be to make, but as a tiny platform and one that presumably values competition and free speech as general ideals I’m wondering if you could expand this system to other platforms too, and use the branding (eg. “made by odysee.com”) and option to sync to odysee as a way to advertise and grow the platform.

Happy with that and it shares the load around.
For those ready to go me for not paying creators I can assure you that youtube was much better before people started getting paid as a lot of slop was not created by those seeking financial reward. Those that did it for the love of it created much better stuff.
In Thailand there is a word "Sunok". Many believe it means fun but that is only the half of it. it actually means interestingly fun. That was Youtube before influencers. Interestingly fun.
Something Odysee may loose now that it is streaming Youtube slop.

      This is a good thing.
Content-wise, youtube outshines Odysee in almost every meaningful way.
Making it easier for content creators to have their stuff here, and get paid, is a good thing.
I don't get all these tards who think that syncing youtube content = censorship, they're truly retarded.

      • gotta be ragebait. a blanket statement that’s astronomically flawed, repeated insults towards everyone sharing the popular opinion, and a self-report on your own intelligence to top it off. “i’m unable to understand their argument… but i’m still confident they’re the dumb ones!”

youtube content has to be censored to even be available. it has to be tailored to the algorithm to even get views. so it’s always the same bland cookie cutter shit - but somehow that ‘outshines’ uncensored and unrestricted content that you can only get on here (and similar alternate sites) - the only selling point of websites like this, as funnily enough, youtube outshines them in every OTHER way instead.

let’s make this place nothing but youtube mirrors! hey wait… why is everything i’m watching on here following youtube’s censorship rules…? why is everything i’m watching here available there too, where it loads much faster, and the creator actually reads my comments? why can’t i find any unique exclusive content being made on here with only mirrors being promoted? how come the freedom of this website, the only thing setting it apart, isn’t being utilized by any uploader and their content?

…wait, why am i even on this odysee website again when it’s basically youtube v0.5? may as well go back to the real youtube…!

“let’s promote odysee as the youtube mirror website, and do everything we can to discourage people tailoring content to this site by having it be their primary focus and home of their content, so they never ever create uncensored and unrestricted content and utilise odysee’s strengths.” so… why visit here over youtube exactly?

    • I say create your own website and post your content there! Why feed parasitical platforms living off others' energies? Let the open internet be your platform!

      • any idea how much bandwidth video streaming eats up the moment your site becomes remotely popular?
(hint: it's enough that practically every affordable host will kick you off their services entirely for hosting several videos, or outright ban the common video file types from being hosted across the board for everyone!)

even most professional websites with high bandwidth limits prefer to embed youtube videos (as opposed to self-hosting) to avoid the situation entirely. it's expensive stuff. there's very few viable youtube clones for a reason!

imagine unironically blocking me over the above reply. thinnest skin i've ever seen online.

if a friendly reply somehow triggers you then i can assure you one thing - you're not built for the internet!
