The suspect, who law enforcement said was a woman, has been identified but no arrests have been made, police said.

The attack occurred when the guitarist, 76, showed up to an appointment in Santa Monica, California.

Law enforcement sources told KNBC that the attacker is a stalking suspect.

Authorities say the woman learned that Lindsey would be at the location, and struck once he entered the building.

While she then fled the scene, she has been identified and an arrest is incoming, sources say.

Lindsey was not injured in the attack, law enforcement stated.

In a statement to The U.S. Sun, LAPD revealed the investigation is still underway.

“The Los Angeles Police Department’s Threat Management Unit is working with the Santa Monica Police Department to investigate this incident.

“To protect the integrity of the open and ongoing investigation, no further comment will be provided at this time,” the statement read.

The two-time Grammy winner joined Fleetwood Mac in 1975 and has had a tumultuous history with both the band and his former collaborator and ex-partner, Stevie Nicks.

Despite years of one of the most legendary on-again-off-again romances in music history, the pair ultimately went their separate ways in the 90s – though their fans have always hoped for the couple to rekindle.

The latest rumors that the Fleetwood Mac duo were “getting back together” stemmed from rumors that circulated in late 2025.

They reunited for a remastered re-release of their legendary album, Buckingham Nicks, which they recorded before joining Fleetwood Mac.

Though they acknowledged their relationship through the musical release, neither rocker ever publicly mentioned any sort of romantic rekindling.

It had been years since Stevie and Lindsey were last together romantically, however, they’ve always maintained a magnetic connection – even during his long-term marriage.

Lindsey married Kristen Messner in 2000 after they met on a photoshoot four years prior.

When they announced their separation in 2021, fans immediately jumped to hoping that the Buckingham Nicks pair would rekindle.

Although their divorce does not appear to be finalized yet, despite Kristen filing more than four years ago, it looks like fans may be closer to getting their wish of Stevie and Lindsey getting back together.

After never following each other for years on social media, both Stevie and Lindsey followed one another on Instagram in October.

While the move may seem like a small gesture, fans took the glimmer of hope as a sign the scathed lovers had at the very least buried the hatchet of their messy history.

Sparks of a reconciliation only continued to fuel when Fleetwood Mac founder, Mick Fleetwood, shared an Instagram video, seemingly out of the blue, of him listening to their song Frozen Love.

Mick, 78, was perched outside in his backyard as the headphones played the classic Buckingham Nicks song from 1973 – the year before the duo officially joined Fleetwood Mac.

“Magic then, magic now,” the drummer captioned the post – which Lindsey and Stevie both liked.

His words he chose to use in the video also sparked a strong reaction from fans, as Mick discussed the “marriage” of his two bandmates.

Lindsey and Stevie began dating in the late 1960s and went on to form the musical duo, Buckingham Nicks, shortly after.

They joined Fleetwood Mac in 1974 and found instant success with the band – catapulting all five members, including Mick, John McVie, and Christine McVie, into worldwide sensations.

Although they were at the height of their careers and continued to have to work together in the same band, Stevie and Lindsey officially broke up in 1976.

They continued to have more casual reconciliations in the years after – and Stevie even went on to date her other bandmate, Mick, for a brief period of time.
