The BBC is sending out 46 million licence fee letters after losing £1 BILLION - as UK households face a hike to £180. The BBC is increasing the enforcement activity as the licence fees climbs to £180 from April 1.

The BBC dispatched 46 million warning letters to British households during 2024-25 as the corporation intensified its crackdown. This figure marks a 12 per cent rise compared with the previous year, when 41 million enforcement notices were issued.

MPs said the corporation was "not doing enough" to enforce compliance. John O'Connell, chief executive of the TaxPayers' Alliance, said: "Sending out around up to 72 million licence fee letters smacks of an organisation desperately trying to shore up a failing funding model.

"When the BBC has to bombard households with reminders to pay, it's a clear sign the licence fee is no longer fit for purpose."

The latest figures sent by TV Licensing, the BBC’s revenue protection arm, were revealed in the Labour Party government’s response to a parliamentary question written by Alex Mayer, a Labour MP, last week.

It marked the highest number of warning letters sent by the BBC in at least three years.

And after being approached, the BBC said 72 million letters were issued, which also included licence expiry reminders, letters to unlicensed addresses, payment letters and refund-related correspondence.
