Top Super Mario Bros Speedrunner, Niftski, has uploaded an exposé showing how the current Any% world record holder, Averge, conspired with the moderators of SMB's Speedrun.com leaderboard to change the rules for the sole purpose of preventing him from taking back the record.
Previously rules permitted runners to switch between using a keyboard and a NES controller mid-run. Since the rule set dictates that keyboard players must play with a certain layout, some strategies are almost impossible to execute. Switching input methods allows playing those portions on a controller to make them easier.
Niftski has been grinding individual levels for months with the goal of reaching the currently known fastest possible time. Seeing Niftski's progress, Averge decided to fire up Discord and prevent this from happening at all costs.

Why should I care?
Niftski is a white man who can bench 225lbs while Averge goes by the pronoun "they". This has caused xe to seethe.
