Press statement by the Embassy of the Islamic Republic of Iran in Tokyo March, 31, 2026 Ambassador Seadat had the pleasure of speaking with Yomiuri TV last week. He responded to questions regarding the regional and global consequences of American and Israeli unlawful aggression against Iran, stating that the aggressors have transformed the entire region, including the Strait of Hormuz, into a war zone. As captured verbatim and for the sake of clarity, the Ambassador stated, among others, three points: - "Recently, we have seen the passage of vessels arranged through coordination between Iran and countries such as India, Pakistan, and Turkey. These passages have been successfully coordinated; however, this does not apply to hostile parties that are, in fact, at war with our nation." - "I am speaking generally, and not necessarily specifically about Japan; however, friendly countries like Japan and others coordinate their passage through the Strait of Hormuz. This is simply a matter of coordination necessitated by the fact that this is now a war zone—not because Iran desired it, but because the Americans have transformed it into one." - "I think Her Excellency PM Takaichi made a very important point by saying things that we can do and things that we cannot do constitutionally. And I think that she sent a message in a way that perhaps the American side can take it in a proper way. So, I think this very point that Excellency said is very meaningful and is very in line with trying not to engage in a kind of situation that was brought to the international community unilaterally by the United States." Therefore, the Embassy of the Islamic Republic of Iran does not confirm any other speculations.
