A full base game playthrough stream in Spanish - with Nacho Vigalondo, director of TIMECRIMES, literally one of my favorite movies!! This was so fun to see!
If you plan on putting it all in the base game tray, there will be an option in the pledge manager after the campaign to choose a plain recyclable box for your B-Movie Expansion components to ship in. That way you don't need to have the empty expansion box sitting around, or worse - throw it away!
Of course you can still get the default, high quality full color expansion box if you prefer (for example, if you sleeve your cards - the base game tray alone will not fit all the base game and expansion cards if they are sleeved).
"This Kickstarter has been one of the best that I have been a part because of your positivity, your energy, and your honesty."
"Got my game today, what a blast it was to play! Components are fantastic, the tray to house everything is 10/10. This is definitely going to be a game night staple 🤩"
"There's so much creativity in the design aspects of the game, fun unique mechanics and so much you could do in a single move...a wonderful co-op game with an entertaining end that anyone who enjoys movies would love"
"Excellent components - high quality. Fun and thematic co-op gameplay. Clearly a labor of love by this designer. Big thumbs up from a satisfied Kickstarter backer!"
"I am absolutely delighted. Mal, you put your heart and soul into this game and it shows! Thank you"
"Love this game! Love the humor! Great game play! Fun, challenging cooperative. This was a huge kickstarter win! I’d pick this up to play any day, and am excited to share it with more friends."
"Absolutely enjoyed playing, and can’t wait to play again! I’m a professional Production Designer for film and television, and I gotta say…you nailed it. Those Problem Cards bring back so many (bad) memories!"
"Got my game today and WOW!!!!! I am so impressed!!! Thank you for working so hard to deliver such a fantastic product. The organizer is amazing, and the clapper box is 👨🍳💋 I can't wait to see what else you have in store for the gaming community!"
"What a fantastic game!!! Well done, not only pleased with the component quality and art, but very impressed with the engaging and challenging game play. ... If there were ever to be an expansion, it would be an auto-buy/auto-back for me. Again, very well done! Thank you for designing such a great game!"
"After three plays, I definitely think this is in my top 10 of all time, it's just super FUN. I think I've been longing for a really fun co-op game. Horrified is pretty good, so is Pandemic, but this is just way above those for me. Really great job Mal!!"
"My absolute #1 co-op game to play and easily one of the best games I’ve backed on Kickstarter."

I'm a small creator and I'm in love with the direct-to-you Kickstarter model. Unlike many other publishers, I will not be seeking traditional distribution for the English-language version of this game, although I am open to partnerships with other publishers (see: Other Languages section below). I am also more than happy to work directly with brick-and-mortar local game stores (see: Retailers section below). And, as a disclaimer if you're reading this in the far future, sometimes deals come up in the meantime or after the campaign - but as I said, I am not actively seeking them out at this point.
So, back the campaign now to secure your copy! But if you want to wait, that's okay too - there will undoubtedly be ways to get a copy after the campaign. You just may not find it on a shelf near you.
Like the original Roll Camera! campaign, instead of stretch goals, YOU will decide which new content and component upgrades you want to add to the B-Movie Expansion by voting on scenes to "shoot" together! (The base game was already fully kitted out last time around, and all those upgrades are included in any pledge containing the base game.)
Each voting day you will choose one of two scenes to "shoot." Each scene will have an associated upgrade: either new content to add to the expansion, or an upgrade to the component quality. When you vote for that scene, it gets added to our "movie" below, and the upgrade is added to the game!
The scene not chosen MAY come back around again later on! They're not necessarily gone forever...
Note that all expansion components that match base game components will by default have matching component quality; for example, all the player boards in the expansion will by default be 1mm cardboard, linen finish, with spot UV so they will seamlessly match the base game player boards. For this reason most of the upgrades to the expansion will be for new content!
The winning scenes are placed in the next available slot in the Editing Room below, where you can track which bonuses have already been unlocked and what point in the story we're at:
So make sure the Scene you vote for isn't just the upgrade you want, but also makes narrative sense! There's no re-editing allowed - we're cutting this baby on the fly.
This will allow you to participate more in how the game is upgraded, and give us a clear idea of which kinds of upgrades you actually WANT in the game. (Please note that these upgrades are not 100% guaranteed to feature in the final game - they PROBABLY will, but I reserve the right to change my mind if I think the upgrade will result in a worse product somehow.) Some scenes might become available again later, others might disappear forever! So choose wisely.
We are partnering with Backerkit, a pledge manager, for this campaign. A pledge manager is a third-party service that allows you to do things after the Kickstarter campaign ends, like change your address, order additional copies of the game, confirm your pledge, and pay for shipping.
You'll receive an email invitation soon after this campaign is over, so please keep an eye out. You must fill out the pledge manager before it closes (deadline TBD soon; estimated January, 2022) to guarantee your reward! We'll give you plenty of time and lots of reminders, both here on Kickstarter, on the Roll Camera! Facebook group and the Keen Bean Studio Discord, but if you miss the deadline you could be giving up your game. So PLEASE check your email, and spam box, often after the campaign.
We are working with local fulfillment companies around the world to provide the cheapest possible shipping option for you. We are also subsidizing up to 40% of the shipping costs so that, again, you will pay as little as possible for shipping.
VAT is included / also subsidized. You will not be asked later in the pledge manager to pay additional VAT or other fees on top of shipping. If you are from a customs-friendly region (US, CA, UK, EU, China, Australia/NZ), you will also not have to pay any additional customs or duty charges upon delivery. You're welcome!
If you'd like to get an idea of the shipping costs, please take a look at our friendly shipping estimator spreadsheet. These prices are estimates and are subject to change, though I will do my best not to change them.
Your language not here? You can help! If you want Roll Camera! to be printed in your language, YOU are the best ambassador. Talk to a publisher that you like who localizes games in your language (ideally games that are similar to Roll Camera), send them this campaign page, and tell them to get in touch with me. I'm only one person, so I can't be everywhere at once - but I am open to collaborations that come my way.
As mentioned above, for the English language version of this game I do not currently have plans for wide distribution or deals with distributors. I prefer the direct approach - and I am happy to deal directly with you, if you are a brick-and-mortar retailer. Just fill out this form, and once we can verify your store's status, you'll be invited to the retailer section of the Backerkit pledge manager (after it's gone live, likely a few weeks after the campaign ends) where you can get access to the retailer discounts and complete your orders. More details on the form. Please get in touch if you have any questions.
Malachi Ray Rempen (designer / illustrator / publisher): I started out as a filmmaker in the USA, then moved to Europe where in 2011 I started Itchy Feet: the Travel and Language Comic as a minor side project. That minor side project blew up, and in 2017 I launched Itchy Feet: the Travel Card Game, and when that also did far better than expected, I decided maybe I'm really secretly a comic artist and game designer. Last year I founded Keen Bean Studio and launched the first campaign for Roll Camera!, and now I've got a whole pipeline full of games and comics that I'm excited to share with you in the coming years.
John Velgus (co-designer / developer for Roll Camera: the B-Movie Expansion): is a board game designer, developer, editor, and puzzle designer from the San Francisco Bay Area. He enjoys games of all kinds and is serious about fun. John has a video production/film background, having worked as a camera operator, editor, sound, PA, storyboard artist, video switcher, and more. He strives to make the games he works on streamlined and accessible without sacrificing depth, and tries extra hard to include humor whenever possible. The few times Velgus is not working on or playing a game you might find him hiking, volunteering, or sneaking in a cheesy dance workout.
Kickstarter video animated segment by George Georgeadis of Oniro. Voice over by Claire Gresham. Live action video segment shot by Oliver Valente. Base game rulebook by Sam Hillier. Lead playtesters for the base game were Maxime Rioux, Jayden Bailey, Michael Herbers, Dan Callaghan, Grattan Aikins, Isabelle Schmitz, Daniel McLellan, Ava Tramer, and Baer Lederman. Lead playtesters for the B-Movie Expansion were Jamieson Mockel, Chelsea Halliwell, Sam Paulding, Breeze Grigas, Don Gilstrap, Adrian Gilstrap, Jessica Gilstrap, William Gilstrap, Eliot Miller, Laura Fredriksen, John Brieger, Glenn Cotter, Tiffany Cotter, Gigi Cotter, Ronan Cotter and Marie Cotter.
John Velgus would like to thank the Bay Area Board Game Boosters and Designers and Zach Nieman. Malachi Ray Rempen would like to very specially thank Erik Rempen, Kilian Rempen, Kaleb Wentzel-Fisher, Chris Palmer, Marc Specter, EVERYONE who backed this game the first time around (seriously, THANK YOU), and of course his wife and child, the Keenest Beans: Iris & Noah Rempen.
This is my third Kickstarter project and I'm pretty risk-averse, so you're in good hands. With any project, there are always unforeseen problems, delays, and difficulties (I think 2020 taught us all that much!). But I am 100% committed to you getting your game. That is my #1 priority (after making an awesome, high-quality game, of course). My #2 priority is being as transparent and communicative as possible during and after the campaign, at all stages. If there's a delay, you'll know right away, and you'll know exactly why. And if I'm not being communicative enough, please get in touch! Have a look at my previous campaigns, particularly the comments sections, if you would like an idea of how I run things. I've gotten enough positive feedback to know I'm doing something right! WHAT ABOUT THE WORLDWIDE SHIPPING CRISIS? Delays could happen, sure. But because my business model is direct-to-consumer, I don't print a bunch of extra copies to sell into retail, so there are fewer copies to ship and it's easier to find a place in a freight container. For the same reason it's extremely unlikely I will need to ask backers for any more money for freight, even if shipping does continue to rise. Basically, I'm keeping it slim and that allows us a lot of flexibility. But yeah, there is a crisis, so there could certainly be delays.
