I think that you are misinformed in calling it "important." It's probably a pretty low proportion of Americans who do that.

It snacks [sic] of societal insecurity... ?

Does it now?

I like snacks

1

Because we like snacks so much. Lol

This comment will be confusing once you edit, but I don’t foresee this post staying up long, anyway…

In this country we stand for the flag, and kneel for the cheezits.

It is pretty unusual for people to actually fly a US flag at their home

1

Fellas is it insecure to be proud of the country you live in and fly the flag of it?

1

Not if you enjoy snacks. AMERICAN snacks, that is.

  • Because I like my country. (Also it takes basically no effort and nobody cares if you don't do it so I don't know where you're getting "important.")

    It snacks of societal insecurity

No, the discomfort with displays of pride in anything smacks of personal shame and neuroticism projected on to others. You dislike patriotism because you're ashamed of your country, and that's not our problem.

They also don't understand why anyone here would still love our country because they're a foreigner whose only knowledge of America is from the outside through news reporting and so they naturally are more familiar with the negatives and the serious problems of the country. Very hard for them to actually imagine that people who grew up here, whose families have been here for generations, actually still love our home despite its horrid mess.

From where did you get the notion that it is common or important to fly the flag outside of your house in the United states?

    1

These days flying a flag outside your house means more likely than not you’re Republican. Obviously not every case though. Most people don’t display American flags.

    1

I don't have any flags on my house op

    1

    It does snack.

It kind of depends on the time.

Growing up in the 90s it was just something that maybe Veterans did. It was pretty innocent.

After 9/11 there were flags everywhere in support of those who died on that day. And it continued for those that supported the following wars.

Today it’s about being conservative. Liberals rarely display the flag. Conservatives love to wave it.

    It changes over time.

    1

I don’t know why it’s important to some people, but the fact it is important to them is enough for me.

Why do people in every other country on earth also display their national flag? Are you insecure? Self-absorbed? Do you only see the American flag and not your own country's flag due to some kind of brain injury?

    1

Of course the US has a population over 330 million, so this is not universal, however the US is genuinelu a hyper nationalistic country. I think originally this stems from the idea of American exceptionalism and divine Providence, but through the Cold war propaganda supercharged those nationalistic tendencies out of paranoia for the "ref menace" around the corner. We never really recovered from that, and 9/11 and the ensuing further added fuel to that fire as well.

    Mmmmmm snacks 🤤

    1

Very few people do that here. Those who do are probably just overly patriotic.

It's not important at all. There's no social stigma to not having a flag at all. I can look down my street right now let's see I count exactly zero flags. You might have seen a picture or a show or movie set on the 4th of July or something. And if you gotta ask why people fly flags on the 4th of July you might as well ask why people decorate for Christmas or Halloween lol.

It's about as "important" as having a bird feeder or a flower bed. Just something some people do because they like it.
