For the Summer Games, one athlete representing the Philippines first competed at the Games of the VIII Olympiad Paris 1924, taking part there in the sport of athletics. At the Games of the IX Olympiad Amsterdam 1928, Teofilo Yldefonso became the first athlete representing the Philippines to win an Olympic medal of any colour, capturing bronze in the men’s swimming 200m breaststroke event. At the Games of the XXXII Olympiad Tokyo 2020, Hidilyn Diaz became the first athlete representing the Philippines to win an Olympic gold medal, competing in the women’s weightlifting 55kg event. For the Winter Games, athletes representing the Philippines first competed at the XI Olympic Winter Games Sapporo 1972, taking part there in the discipline of alpine skiing. No athlete representing the Philippines has yet won an Olympic Winter Games medal of any colour.

At Beijing 2022, the Philippines was represented by one athlete, Alpine skier Asa Miller, who was unable to finish both the men's slalom and giant slalom events. Miller also competed at PyeongChang 2018, finishing 70th in men's giant slalom. Miller's appearance in Beijing made him the second athlete to represent the Philippines at more than one edition of the Games, after figure skater Michael Christian Martinez, who competed at PyeongChang 2018 and Sochi 2014.
