For the Summer Games, athletes representing Cyprus first competed at the Games of the XXII Olympiad Moscow 1980, taking part in the sports or discipline of judo, sailing and swimming. At the Games of the XXX Olympiad London 2012, Pavlos Kontides became the first athlete representing Cyprus to win an Olympic medal of any colour, capturing silver in the men’s sailing one person dinghy event. For the Winter Games, athletes representing Cyprus first competed at the XIII Olympic Winter Games Lake Placid 1980, taking part the discipline of alpine skiing. No athlete representing Cyprus has yet won an Olympic Winter Games medal of any colour.

At Beijing 2022, Cyprus competed in Alpine skiing only, just as it had done at each of the 11 previous Olympic Winter Games editions. The NOC's sole representative in Beijing was Olympic debutant Yianno Kouyoumdjian, who finished 42nd in the men's giant slalom and did not finish the slalom event.
