For the Summer Games, athletes representing Thailand first competed at the Games of the XV Olympiad Helsinki 1952, participating there in the sport of athletics. At the Games of the XXI Olympiad Montreal 1976, Payao Poontarat became the first athlete representing Thailand to win an Olympic medal of any colour, capturing bronze in the men’s boxing light-flyweight event. At the Games of the XXVI Olympiad Atlanta 1996, Somluck Kamsing became the first athlete representing Thailand to win an Olympic gold medal, competing in the men’s boxing featherweight event. For the Winter Games, one athlete representing Thailand first competed at the XIX Olympic Winter Games Salt Lake City 2002, taking part there in the discipline of cross country skiing. No athlete representing Thailand has yet won an Olympic Winter Games medal of any colour.
Four athletes represented Thailand at the Beijing 2022 Olympic Winter Games. In Alpine skiing, Nicola Zanon finished 38th and 40th in men's giant slalom and slalom, respectively, while Mida Fah Jaiman was unable to finish the women's slalom and giant slalom races. In cross-country skiing, siblings Mark Chanloung and Karen Chanloung, who were born in Italy to an Italian mother and Thai father, took part in several events. Karen finished 61st and 63rd in the women's sprint free and 10km classic, while Mark posted a best finish from his four events of 49th in the men's 50km mass start free.
