It sure could. It would actually lead to better systems and decisions when people stop handwaving away everyone that had bad luck even if the ones with good luck are a minority. The argument I was trying to make is that the general public would potentially have a much easier time accepting the integration of humanoid robots into society in the coming future if they deliberately designed them to not look like humans, which would remove a lot of instinctive negative reactions to them (due to our co-evolution with rival human sub-species) and help sell the idea that they're here to assist us, not compete with us.

Again, putting the cart before the horse just to post furry shit on a Vietnamese underwater basket weaving image forum. There are already practical engineering attempts at making robots more approachable to humans, the Personal Robots group at MIT media labs has a lot of examples. These are very early efforts but none of them involve furry identity garbage.
