Had a very nice visit with long-time Town of Steilacoom resident Lou Dunkin this afternoon. She is now 107 years old and one day! She is currently at the Arcadia Medical Resort in University Place because of an ankle injury but hopes to be healed and back to her beloved Steilacoom very soon. Her husband Lyle Dunkin (born 1911) was the Mayor of Steilacoom during the 1970s and both were very politically active into their 90s. I had many long conversations at their home with them when they lived on Main Street and then on Starling Street. Both times in homes they built. Now Lou lives in Dunkin Ridge, their last development project. At age 107 she is slowing down, but she asked me a lot of good questions about the mill property, the tribal center property and also briefed me on their project to underground the electric utility back in the 1970s. They have written a few books about Steilacoom which I need to read! King 5 News was there to interview Lou and I spoke with King 5 News afterwards. So tune in tonight! PS: Her daughter who is only 83 years of age is assisting Lou.
