For the Summer Games, athletes representing ‘Hong Kong’, at that time, first competed at the Games of the XV Olympiad Helsinki 1952, taking part in the discipline of swimming. At the Games of the XXVI Olympiad Atlanta 1996 Lai Shan Lee became the first athlete to win an Olympic medal of any colour, capturing gold in the women’s sailing windsurfer (mistral) event. For the Winter Games, athletes representing Hong Kong, China first competed at the XIX Olympic Winter Games Salt Lake City 2002, taking part in the discipline of short track speed skating. No athlete representing Hong Kong, China has yet won an Olympic Winter Games medal of any colour.
At Beijing 2022, the NOC was represented by three athletes. Alpine skiers Hau Tsuen Adrian Yung (men's slalom and giant slalom) and Audrey Alice King (women's slalom) did not finish their events, while short track speed skater Sidney K Chu ended the men's 500m event in 24th place. Chu's result is the highest finish by a male athlete representing Hong Kong, China at a Winter Games.
