For the Summer Games, athletes representing 'Trinidad', at that time, first competed at the Games of the XIV Olympiad London 1948, taking part there in the sports or discipline of athletics, track cycling and weightlifting. At the Games of the XIV Olympiad London 1948 Rodney Wilkes became the first athlete representing 'Trinidad', at that time, to win an Olympic medal of any colour, capturing silver in the men’s weightlifting featherweight event. At the Games of the XXI Olympiad Montreal 1976 Hasely Crawford became the first athlete representing Trinidad and Tobago to win an Olympic gold medal, competing in the men’s athletics 100 metres event. For the Winter Games, athletes representing Trinidad and Tobago first competed at the XVII Olympic Winter Games Lillehammer 1994, taking part in the discipline of bobsleigh. No athlete representing Trinidad and Tobago has yet won an Olympic Winter Games medal of any colour.

At Beijing 2022, Trinidad and Tobago made its return to the Winter Games for the first time since Salt Lake City 2002. To date, the NOC has only competed in bobsleigh at the Winter Games, and only in the 2-man event. In Beijing, Axel Brown, Shakeel John and Andre Marcano finished 28th, which was Trinidad and Tobago's highest finish in the event.
