For the Summer Games, athletes representing Jamaica first competed at the Games of the XIV Olympiad London 1948, taking part in the sports of athletics, boxing and weightlifting. At the Games of the XIV Olympiad London 1948 Arthur Wint, became the first athlete representing Jamaica to win an Olympic medal of any colour, capturing silver in the men’s athletics 800 metres event. At the same edition of the Games, Wint became the first athlete representing Jamaica to win an Olympic Games gold medal, competing in the men’s athletics 400 metres event. For the Winter Games, athletes representing Jamaica first competed at the XV Olympic Winter Games Calgary 1988, taking part in the discipline of bobsleigh. No athlete representing Jamaica has yet won an Olympic Winter Games medal of any colour.

At Beijing 2022, Benjamin Alexander became the first athlete to represent Jamaica in Alpine skiing at a Winter Games, finishing 46th in the men's giant slalom. In the more familiar territory of the bobsleigh track, Jamaica took part in the 4-man, 2-man and women's monobob in Beijing. The NOC's only female athlete at the 2022 Games, Jazmine Fenlator-Victorian, posted the highest finish with 19th in the women's monobob. Fenlator-Victorian also represented Jamaica at PyeongChang 2018 in the 2-woman event, finishing 18th alongside Carrie Russell. Fenlator-Victorian's return for the 2022 Games made her the first female athlete to represent Jamaica at more than one edition of the Winter Games.
