For the Summer Games athletes representing Croatia first competed at the Games of the XXV Olympiad Barcelona 1992, taking part in the sports or disciplines of athletics, basketball, boxing, canoe slalom, canoe sprint, equestrian, rowing, sailing, shooting, table tennis, tennis and wrestling. At the Games of the XXV Olympiad Barcelona 1992, Goran Ivanisevic and Goran Prpic became the first athletes representing Croatia to win an Olympic medal of any colour, capturing bronze in the men’s tennis doubles event. At the Games of the XXVI Olympiad Atlanta 1996, athletes representing Croatia won a first Olympic gold medal, competing in the men’s handball event. For the Winter Games athletes representing Croatia first competed at the XVI Olympic Winter Games Albertville 1992, competing in the disciplines of alpine skiing, cross-country skiing and figure skating. At the XIX Olympic Winter Games Salt Lake City 2002 , Janica Kostelic became the first athlete representing Croatia to win an Olympic Winter Games medal of any colour, capturing gold in the women’s combined alpine skiing event.

At Beijing 2022, Croatia competed in Alpine skiing, cross-country skiing, snowboard and for the first time at the Games, short track speed skating. The NOC did not win a medal in Beijing, with a highest finish of 10th achieved by Filip Zubcic in the men's Alpine skiing giant slalom event. Valentina Ascic made history as the NOC's first Olympic representative in short track speed skating, competing in the women's 500m and 1500m events with a best finish of 23rd in the 500m. Croatia's youngest athletes in Beijing were 17-year-old cross-country skier Tena Hadzic, and 18-year-old Alpine skier Zrinka Ljutic.
