Naturally yesterday’s anons have given me some thought so I’ve been reflecting a bit. One relatively common critique of being a trans ally is that it’s easier to attack JK Rowling for ‘internet points’ over doing anything else.
And I think it’s worth putting that in context for myself at the very least. JK Rowling lives in Scotland. Her wealth is directly funding court cases against the Scottish government that burns time and resources, and there’s a feeling of powerlessness within ScotGov because they simply cannot compete.
The Scottish Government is a devolved government with limited powers. They cannot make the case against the Supreme Court ruling, and when the Scottish Parliament passed Gender Recognition Act reform, it was blocked by the British Government.
I cannot express enough how much of the anti trans movement in Scotland and the UK is being bankrolled and supported by the wealth and influence of JK Rowling.
People who still love Harry Potter are either directly financing her ability to inflict harm on trans people, or providing her with the cultural capital which keeps Harry Potter in the limelight.
So the option is to take pot shots at that when we can, and help services which provide critical support to trans people which is what I try to do when I can.
TL:DR - There’s a very real reason people take the piss out of JK Rowling. I believe she’s a hateful bigot who contributes to real suffering.
Worth adding because there’s some comments about it - this is not the first time JK Rowling has thrown her wealth around politically.
She spent the run up to the Scottish independence referendum funding the No campaign and referring to Yes supporters as death eaters.
honestly, with the way she has put hundreds of thousands of pounds publicly, and probably more privately, into destroying the lives of as many individual trans people as possible, literally personally funding legal campaigns to destroy specific trans women, along with using every ounce of her political influence and wealth to attack trans people’s rights in the courts, through legislation, and through targetted harassment campaigns, JKR is, without exaggeration or embellishment, personally responsible for dozens of trans suicides AT LEAST.
she is not the only person championing our oppression, but she is absolutely one of the most public and influencial drivers of trans deaths in the UK.
she’s not just someone who maybe has a few bad views, or puts her money into bad shit politically, or has some questionable friends behind the scenes, she is a dedicated, full time agitator and funder for trans extermination.
the fact that some cis people aren’t just unaware of this, but when they are told they are disbelieving of it, is frankly disgusting.

now you know.
now is the time for you to do better, not dig your heels in and pretend we’re all just hysterical liars because you can’t deal with the fact you didn’t see it sooner.
idk, I don’t know what else to say, when cis people speak out in support of us it gives me a little hope because frankly trans people cannot escape this without you, without cis people listening to us and believing us.
