Dad rushed to hospital after 'murder bid' at Scots bus station as eight youths charged
Seven boys aged between 12 and 17, and a 16-year-old girl have been arrested and charged in connection.
Eight youths have been charged following a "murder bid" incident at a bus station in Kilmarnock.
Emergency services were called to the Green Street area in the town after the alarm was raised at around 9.45pm on Friday, March 20. A 29-year-old man was taken to hospital for treatment.
Officers from Police Scotland are treating the assault as attempted murder. Seven boys aged between 12 and 17, and a 16-year-old girl have been arrested and charged in connection.
They have all been released on an undertaking to appear at court at a later date. A source told the Record that the man who was attacked was a dad who was passing through the town centre at the time.
The source said: "The area was busy with people at the time and locals were terrified.
"There have been a number of incidents with youths at the bus station in recent weeks. The kids are getting to run wild. There needs to be more of a police presence in the area following this."
Police say their enquiries remain ongoing. A spokesperson for the force said: “Around 9.45pm on Friday, March 20, a 29-year-old man was seriously assaulted in the Green Street area of Kilmarnock. He was taken to Crosshouse Hospital for treatment.
“The assault is being treated as attempted murder and seven male youths, aged between 12 and 17, and a 16-year-old female have been arrested and charged in connection. All were released on an undertaking to appear at court at a later date. Enquiries are ongoing.”
