Who needs to go to Cannes to get up close and personal with the stars. On Friday night, Taiwanese actor Chang Chen and Hong Kong director Wong Kar-wai mingled with friends, fans and the paparazzi at Fendi's private screening of Eros at UA Pacific Place. The film comprises three brief views on erotic love directed by Wong, Stephen Soderbergh and Michelangelo Antonioni. After watching Wong's interpretation of erotic love in his segment, The Hand, you will never underestimate the power of a hand. Chang (pictured with co-star Gong Li in the film) said he had watched the movie more than 60 times.

Earlier the same day, the Post published an interview with Wong in which he remarked, 'Young audiences, particularly in Hong Kong, don't have patience in watching movies'. And when CitySeen asked if the director had anything further to share, he said he was very happy.

Chang, who wore white sneakers with a Fendi suit, received a pair of white boxing gloves as a gift from Wong. 'Chang has been to Cannes many times,' says Wong, 'but this is the first time he is there as the leading role. The boxing gloves symbolise a knockout at Cannes.'

China is still on course to overtake the United States as the world’s largest economy in the next decade, as the global balance of power pivots towards Asia and America pursues a string of “self-defeating” policies, a prominent academic has said.

While the Chinese economy is undergoing a structural transition, the current challenges facing the US are more severe, according to Li Cheng, the founding director of the University of Hong Kong’s Centre on Contemporary China and the World.

The US is likely to remain mired in “self-defeating” conflicts – from culture wars to the global trade war launched by US President Donald Trump – for years to come, said Li, who was speaking at the Boao Forum for Asia, an annual gathering of political and business leaders in southern China’s Hainan province, on Tuesday.

The second Chinese-owned liquefied petroleum gas (LPG) carrier has transited the Strait of Hormuz since the outbreak of the US-Israeli war with Iran, according to industry sources and vessel-tracking data, amid conflicting claims over access to the vital trade corridor.
Tehran has largely blocked the strategic waterway in retaliation for Washington and Tel Aviv’s strikes, causing widespread disruption to global shipping – though Iranian officials have recently promised safe passage for vessels not linked to the country’s “enemies”.

The Chinese-owned Lucky Gas passed through the strait on Tuesday, navigating near Larak Island in Iranian waters before reaching Oman’s port of Sohar on Wednesday morning. The Panama-flagged ship is owned and operated by Shunhang Ship Management, a Hong Kong-registered company, according to data platform VesselsValue.
