Marian Gold, born Hartwig Schierbaum on May 26, 1954, is a renowned German musician and songwriter best known as the lead vocalist of the synth-pop band Alphaville. Born and raised in Germany, Gold's musical journey began in the late 1970s, however, it was in the early 1980s that Gold skyrocketed to fame with the formation of Alphaville, a group that would go on to release some of the defining chart hits of the decade. Here he talks about how Orchestral Manoeuvres in the Dark OMD changed his life! with their first single ELECTRICITY. With his distinctive voice and charismatic stage presence, Marian Gold played a pivotal role in Alphaville's success, becoming an influential figure in the new wave and synth-pop scene. The band's breakthrough came in 1984 with their iconic single "Big in Japan," which achieved international acclaim and propelled Alphaville to global stardom. Beyond Alphaville, Marian Gold has also embarked on solo projects, showcasing his versatility as an artist and further cementing his status as an enduring icon in the realm of electronic music. And last year Gold released Eternally Yours under the Alphaville name, supported by the Babelsberg Film Orchestra, a fascinating reworking of 40 years of hits from the band Alphaville.
