In a few recent posts I have observed posts get flagged in a pattern that suggests moderator intervention, yet shows up as community flag. So what it looks like to me is: Instant community flags followed by staff flag when follow ups based on not currently flagged material are created.

  1. Can the site just enforce moderators not ever hiding behind community flag and being explicitly marked as moderator action. If moderators wish to flag stuff as community member and not moderator, get them to do it on lower trust level account imo
  2. Additionally, please add a moderator log. Very very weird moderator actions are never revealed to the community, often seemingly on lines of personal vendetta by some, and there is no recourse since posts keep getting deleted on repeated posts. Having logs visible to all just makes the team much more accountable.
  3. Finally, is there a way to understand hiring and firing decisions here? Since forum is populated by posts written by people paid from community donations, I think (which I could be wrong about) that the community deserves to understand how staffing happens and if it is just not staff filling it with their chums.

More emphasis on points 1 and 2 for me, 3 just popped up seeing staff writer Em’s post on leaving.

Thanks for the clarification. I would also request non-team members to not litigate on their behalf, I really want an official answer that I can save and point to easily. Of course if anyone has similar questions, I am sure adding them here will help the team be more comprehensive in their answers.

Note there is an existing thread for forum moderation discussion currently locked in which Jonah asked for discussion of these topics to be put on hold until the team can review and respond.

Forum Moderation

I expect they will take down this topic as a result. Just wanted to give you a heads up on that.

I’d argue there is a difference between a post asking for transparency into why posts are flagged and my post which asks for transparency into the actions themselves irrespective of the rationale.

I’d rather not preemptively discard, if the moderators feel differently, they are free to do what they wish lol
