PolyamoryFixes
PolyamoryFixes
Intro
This mod enables the player to romance multiple characters without triggering jealous reactions or breakups. Should work in multiplayer.
It is not the same mod as the "No Romance Limit (polyamory mod)" by wbw201201 on Nexus. And I'm not wbw201201 :)
⚠️ This description will contain spoilers! ⚠️
Versions
All versions 1.x.x.x base on scripts compiled with the patch 7 toolkit and tested thoroughly for patch 7.
All versions 2.x.x.x base on scripts completely overhauled for better maintenance, are compiled with the patch 7 toolkit, and tested with a lot of test cases for patch 7. Starting a new game with patch 8 did work for me, too. But I did not test any of my test cases here.
All versions 3.x.x.x base on the 2.x.x.x version of the scripts, are compiled with the new patch 8 toolkit , do work with starting a new game or loading a previously unmodded save in patch 8. I currently don't have my usual test cases for patch 8.
Bugs?
For versions 1.x.x.x -> This mod should run relatively stable now. If something happens, please tell me. I'll look into it :)
For versions 2.x.x.x and 3.x.x.x -> I use completely overhauled scripts, so bugs may happen again...
If you encounter any bugs, please report via comment (as I am unable to contact you when you are using the mod.io's bug-report-tool, in most cases).

What about console / mac?
This mod works on all platforms.
There is at least one version that is approved for Windows, Mac, and consoles.
Each update will take some time to be approved for Mac and console.
If you want to know what the version differences are, please take a look at the patch notes.
If you play on Mac and want to use a version of this mod that has not been approved yet, you can just download it manually and put it in your mod folder, apparently.
How do I know the mod works correctly?
When installed correctly, you can find a spell container where your other actions are (like sneaking, jumping and pushing).
The container uses an Icon of a pink or purple heart and contains some utility spells.
If you can see this container, the mod is installed and should be working just fine.
Where do I find the spell container?
You can find the spell container where your other actions are (like sneaking, jumping and pushing).
Do I need to use the spells for the mod to work?
No.
If the mod is installed correctly (you can see the utility spell container), it is working.
To date the companions and play all their scenes, you have to just play the game. Be nice to everybody and everybody will love you back :)
What are the spells good for?
There will be some spells added as spell container to all current player avatars when the scene is loaded.
These spells can be used to date/un-date/partner/un-partner manually, to choose the character favored by Durge in this one scene, to choose the companions' behavior towards Mizora or Halsin, to manipulate approval ratings, and to print your current relationship state.
Some of these spells are only available for versions >= 2.x.x.x!
If you want to know more about the spells, see the other FAQs.
Can you explain the spells "Date!", "Un-Date!", "Partner!" and "Un-Partner!"?
Sure!
These spells are used to change the relationship states manually.
⚠️ You don't have to do this!
These spells can be used if something is buggy, or you want to play around. Manually setting the date- or partnered-states may result in unwanted side effects. Such as some cutscenes not playing because the flags needed for this will not be set additionally.
Can you explain the spells "Choose Durge Favorite"?
Sure!
If you play as Durge, there is one scene in the game, where your butler will tell you to kill Isobel or the person you love most. If you don't want to do that, you can tell your partner, and they will tie you up for the following night.
The companion for this scene will be chosen by the game. To choose the companion by yourself, you can use the spell on that companion, and they will be set for that night.
You don't need to use that spell. But if you don't the game chooses the companion for you.
Can you explain the spells "Toggle On Mizora Acceptance"? (Versions 1.x.x.x)
Sure!
In Act 3 you can be approached by Mizora. You can sleep with her that night. If you do so, the companion you are partnered to may react with a breakup in vanilla.
If you use this spell, the companions will NOT react to you sleeping with Mizora. Except Wyll, because I wanted to prevent bugged exclamation marks.
Wylls relationship state will be restored after talking to him one more time after sleeping with Mizora. He will complain a bit more and be all over you again afterward.
If you date multiple companions, the scene where one of them complains will be buggy. The placing won't fit at all, the companions are all over the place. If you want less chaos, you have to change the relationship state manually before and after. This is the case when acceptance is toggled off, as well as when acceptance is on and you, among others, are in a relationship with Wyll.
Can you explain the spells "Toggle Off Mizora Acceptance"? (Versions 1.x.x.x)
Sure!
In Act 3 you can be approached by Mizora. You can sleep with her that night. If you do so, the companion you are partnered to may react with a breakup in vanilla.
If you use this spell, the companions will react to you sleeping with Mizora like in vanilla game.
This is default!
If you date multiple companions, the scene where one of them complains will be buggy. The placing won't fit at all, the companions are all over the place. If you want less chaos, you have to change the relationship state manually before and after.
Another effect of dating multiple companions with this toggled off: The dialogue after sleeping with Mizora will choose one of your partners to complain. The others may be ignored. This could result in Shadowheart complaining about you not speaking to her first and Gale completely ignoring you sleeping with Mizora. If you WANT to see a specific jealous reaction, you have to set the relationship states manually, before and after.
Can you explain the spells "Toggle Mizora Acceptance"? (Versions 2.x.x.x & 3.x.x.x)
Sure!
In Act 3 you can be approached by Mizora. You can sleep with her that night. If you do so, the companion you are partnered to may react with a breakup in vanilla.
If you use this spell, the behavior of your companions will change based on what is currently toggled.
If toggled ON:
The companions will NOT react to you sleeping with Mizora.
If toggled OFF (default):
The companions will react to you sleeping with Mizora like in vanilla game.
Can you explain the spell "Toggle Halsin Acceptance"? (Versions 2.x.x.x & 3.x.x.x)
Sure!
If you want to start a relationship with Halsin but are already in a relationship with someone else, this someone may not want an open relationship. Use this spell to toggle the behavior of your companions regarding this.
If toggled ON (default):
Halsin works if you don't talk to your other romanced partners and go straight to bed after talking to him about being in a polyamorous relationship. Even if he tells you to ask your partner first. Just tell him you will do, ignore that and take a nap.
If toggled OFF:
Starting a relationship with Halsin works like in vanilla game. You have to talk to him, talk to your partner, and talk to him again. If you have multiple partners, you only need one permission. If you are dating Shadowheart and Gale you can just talk to Shart and ignore Gale, go back to Halsin and start your romance.
If you only want to date Halsin and Halsin alone:
(Why use this mod?)
I would recommend toggling this switch OFF. I don't know if Halsins behavior would be strange otherwise.
Can you explain the spell "Approval +10"? (Versions 2.x.x.x & 3.x.x.x)
Sure!
This spell raises the approval of the target companion by 10 points.
Can you explain the spell "Approval -10"? (Versions 2.x.x.x & 3.x.x.x)
Sure!
This spell lowers the approval of the target companion by 10 points.
Can you explain the spell "Max out approval"? (Versions 2.x.x.x & 3.x.x.x)
Sure!
This spell maxes out the approval of the target companion.
Can you explain the spell "Print Date State"? (Versions 2.x.x.x & 3.x.x.x)
Sure!
This spell can be used to check which companions you are currently dating and which you are partnered with!
How does endgame play out?
Companions you were partnered with before the endgame will now stay partnered with you after the endgame. Even if you break up with them during the endgame cutscenes after defeating the brain.
There are two exceptions:
- If Gale became god (as a player avatar and as a companion),
- If Karlach did not go back to Avernus at all (i.e., died...)
If you date Karlach and send her to Avernus without you, the dialog with her may sound a bit like you two broke up. This is the result of not following her. It may be the same with Wyll and Lae'zel. This is normal game behavior.
If you go to Avernus with Karlach or fly with Lae'zel, you won't get any of the bedroom scenes with the other characters. You will stay in a relationship, though. If you were partnered with Gale, for example, you two can still kiss, but don't talk about your wedding, as there was none.
If you neither go with Karlach nor with Lae'zel, all the bedroom scenes will trigger one after another.
What about Halsins romance?
-> See Can you explain the spell "Toggle Halsin Acceptance"? (Versions 2.x.x.x & 3.x.x.x)
I did set the date- or partnered- state manually by using the spell. Now there are no romance scenes. Why?
Most of the romance scenes play before these states are set. Sleeping with Astarion or Lae'zel the first time, kissing Shadowheart on the cliff, or having a magic lesson with Gale will play before setting the date-state. After these scenes are played, the two of you will be considered dating by the game. If you set the state manually before this scene plays, the game assumes you already have seen this scene (as the state is set) and won't play it anymore.
If you want to play the game normally and experience the scenes, you just don't use these spells.
What is "date" and what is "partnered"?
In short: You are dating the companion when you can flirt and are partnered if you can kiss.
The game handles your relationships with the companions in two stages. Date and partnered.
In vanilla, you were able to date two companions (with exceptions) and to be partnered to one at the end (which results in breaking up with the other dated companion).
This is where the mod does its magic: The companions ignore if you are flirting or dating another companion.
The companions broke up with me after progressing to Act 3. Why?
Most of the dates will break up with you when progressing to Act 3 if you are not partnered yet. This will not be fixed by this mod, as it's how the game works.
If you want to stay in a relationship, you have to be partnered with that companion before advancing the story.
The companions broke up with me after the Tiefling-/raiders-party. Why?
If you tell a companion you'll see them after the party but don't show up, it is possible they will break up or the relationship will not progress further.
If you want to stay in a relationship, you have to see them if you promised.
I would recommend getting to date-state with most of the companions before attempting the party. This way, you don't have too many people wanting to sleep with you at once, and you don't have to choose.
- For Lae'zel that means: sleep with her at least once before the party.
- For Shadowheart that means: kiss her at the cliff before the party.
- For Astarion that means: sleep with him at least once before the party.
- For Gale that means: let him teach you some magic before the party.
- Karlach I don't know yet, unfortunately. But it seems like her scene can trigger before the party, too. It is called "burning up for you" in code.
- Wyll won't be datable until Act 2. You can kiss him at the party, though. This will not have any consequences, as far as I know.
Does this work in multiplayer?
Yes.
The other multiplayer character does not have the spell container. Why?
If this happens, just save and load once. This should add the spell container to all player characters.
