You have to understand this about modern FE fan translations. A lot of them genuinely WANT to follow treehouse logic. It just so happens FE3's pissed off someone so much they took matters into their own hands and redid it (again) to match the Japanese version better like the OG fan translation did (but less jank)

It's the same line of logic as for New thracia doesn't use lil manster and would rather use MTL because he didn't like all the fan fiction made up text it used

Once you get one of these translations it gets really hard to get a real translation. Atleast with a bad attempt you can salvage, improve. But with massive rewrites you have to dump everything, start from scratch, all the while there's a "fandom" made-up of people who are either tolerant or legitimately enjoy rewritten garbage. The only reason this is "popular" is because the japanese explanation is understood as the warp powder malfunctioning. Even though it seems more like the ability to warp the mind without warping the body just seems to be a function of warp powder. And the Black Knight just used that function to operate the armor remotely without moving his physical body. Atleast that's the interpretation that makes more sense to me because I don't think anything even implies there was a warp powder malfunction. So I think it's a similar situation to Soleil where you have misinformation about some gay conversion shit. So people prefer the localization. Though it differs in that the black knight one is a total rewrite while for Soleil they at least kept the seeing male corrin as a woman bit.

I recently replayed FE3 and used the old translation. It's a neat game that any fire emblem fan should play.
FE12 is one of my favorite games and I've replayed it way more then I've played FE3, but there are some things I miss. Like the dragon mechanics: transforming with dragonstones, armor piercing, fire vs ice, etc. I also appreciate how you can't double with javelins.

Fucking lmao. The strongest archers you get start with 6 str and have a 30-40% Str growth, depending on which one you look at. Even if you got them a level up every chapter after recruiting them, you'd only get them maybe 1 Str, 2 if you're lucky. Iron bows are 6 mt and steel 9 mt. The dragoons have 13 def.
So if I gave each of my archers a steel bow to add 9 mt to their 7 str, they'd each only do 3x3 damage to a 29 hp foe. So ALL THREE together wouldn't be enough to kill one. And he has a javelin attacking them back.

I'd say he's the best recipient of a couple early boosters. Dragons double their HP when they transform so he gets +14 from the angelic robe instead of the usual +7. And the goddess icon gives him a lot of protection from crits.

I actually had a lot of fun with FE3 when I played it a while ago. The lack of modern QoL took a few chapters to get used to but it honestly wasn't that bad once I did. Breaking the game over my knee with the Starsphere and star shards was funny. I pumped Phina full of stat boosters and let her become a killing machine.
It feels like a lot of the later games kind of forgot that simplicity can be fun. FE4 and especially FE5 started to do way too much and I'm not surprised Kaga got the boot after FE5.

IMO you should play them all, or at least FE3 and the DS games. FE3 is simple and intuitive so it's good for noobs. FE11 has new mechanics and higher difficulty settings so I find it fun while doing challenge runs and abusing the jank. FE12 is one of the best games in the series, unlike FE11 it feels polished and the higher difficulties feel satisfying to play and replay.
The DS games also have a much better UI, making use of the two screens.

I didn't reclass anyone in FE12. And the boss ohkos your units twice over in FE12. He's less deadly in FE3 despite his effective weapon, plus you can just dismount. Likewise Catria has the option to dismount to reduce bow damage (which might not even kill her) whereas she simply gets OHKOd in FE12.
The layout of the map is different so it's not a 1:1 upgrade, but I think FE12 is harder overall. Maybe you didn't use Arran as much as you could have.
