Just to clear things up - this is not an autonomous tank in any sense. It’s got a three man crew and everything. Not sure why several commenters seem to have gotten the idea that this funky swedish machine from the 80’s is somehow related to the field of autonomous vehicles so PLEASE for the love of god read that article i linked in another comment so you don’t inadvertently end up carrying the wrong idea from this post
probably because of the terrain of sweden being so extreme they built tanks like the STRV’s with no turrets and other tanks that could hold down areas like a mountain top vantage point or a valley/ mountain pass. Just a guess
Smaller, lighter, fully automated tanks. If you remove the crew compartment, that creates a lot of options. You can make the same vehicle lighter and smaller. Or design an entirely new vehicle that does the same thing. But has less weak points.
I don't think we're there yet. There needs to be a lot of tech advancements. A computer could theoretically operate a tank better than a human. And also could be worse than a human operated tank in many ways. Depending on how good the tech is.
But it's interesting to theorize about. It's an unknown. What would an unmanned tank look like? Would it be smaller with less armour. Or bigger? Or with more armour? Maybe small, relatively cheap, semi-disposable vehicles? Or insanely expensive, well protected, large, heavy monsters? Maybe we will not see a fully automated, unmanned tank in out lifetimes. I don't know.
The first step is integrating automated systems more and more into tank designs. Which is already happening.

They misread articulated as automated I am sure.
Just made a new post of pictures showing off the actual articulation bit. Hopefully it doesn’t give off the wrong vibe
some info about this thing
Why is it that the swedish tank designs are always absolutely bonkers?

Interesting that the blueprint had Schachtellaufwerk-style interleaved wheels.
It'll never work. Look at the arrows on the barrel. They mounted it backwards, so it'll shoot itself in the head.
Crazy Swedes.

this looks like something from Tanki 😂
Jesus, I haven’t thought about that game in years. My brother and I loved it when we were kids.
Man you brought back some memories, now i’m sad again that my account got hacked.
Someone saw Damnation Alley and said "That... I want that! But bigger, with treads, and more armour and a big F**k off canon on the top!"
*Edit - spelling
Many Swedes want more amour.
Don't we all... spelling corrected lol
Rest of the world: "Sweden, why can't you just be normal?!"
Sweden: *scréäms*
It's just the scorpion
Wait, this is considered to be a light tank?
War Thunder time War Thunder time War Thunder time War Thunder time god im going insane
Gaijoob pls
This has to be a vehicle from Crossout
For a minute, I thought it was a T95 but with a turret
New Tier X premium just dropped
Articulated, big gun sitting on top alone. This is giving me Halo vibes, like an early version of the scorpion 🦂
Ae, e25 and tornvagn performed a genetic experiment.
the articulated hull and high turret just straight up gives off Scorpion tank vibes from Halo
This could be where things are heading.

Who knows?
It said articulated not automated.
I think drone is a lot more likely than automated. I just fear that it gets hacked and turned on friendlies. No idea if that's possible tbh.
the main issue with unmanned vehicles is jamming.
Manned vehicles are far superior and the downsides are usually much overblown by people who have jumped on the UAV/UGV bandwagon.
UAVs and UGVs are good for supporting manned vehicles and actual human troops. but they should never be relied upon on their own.
And automated vehicles that can set their own targets is a moronic idea and just asking for trouble.
I'd presume they'd evolve into one of those tanks from Arkham Knight
Fuck autonomous warfare. Machines should never have the ability to decide life or death without a humane in the loop.
