Does sadism become acceptable when everyone agrees on the target?

Pedophiles, baby monkey torturers, mass murderers, Islamic child stabbing terrorists, these are a few of the catagories of people widely considered acceptable targets of what looks like sadism, usually under retaliatory justifications. Is this, as the people fantasizing or carrying out the retaliation, an expression of sadism? Is it okay because the target is so reprehensible and deserving that we all just agree that it's okay and leave it at that? I often feel it too and become filled with hate wanting to hurt these people I've only heard about. I hear about arrests or sentences, or see videos of some Africans carrying out a much more direct and brutal form of justice on these classes of people and think "Great, love to see it". I feel like while righteous it is also deeply unhealthy on some emotional/mental/spiritual level. Am I just being a faggot? Discuss.

Criminals like that should be killed, not used to feed the public's sick urges.
Criminals like that have historically been issued what I would call sadistic punishment as far back as Ancient Greek times if not further, then justified as a way of control via warning the public, though I have no doubt there was an element of catharsis or entertainment for said public even then as they watched the public humiliation preceeding the punishment or execution.
