I sometimes think about how a MATI viewer just ran into Liz on chicago public transit, and wonder why we couldn't have the lucky pull that a pavement ape would have their daily anti-asian cope sesh and wrap these legal problems up for us. Awfully risky behavior, shocking that they wouldn't just pay for an Uber.

What case does Dong-Jones even have? Has anyone successfully gotten an image removed for copyright reasons from this or any other forum? I guess the difference in this case is that he got the image registered under copyright but from what I can see it has only been uploaded to the farms with transformative elements. The arguments for why it isn’t transformative or how a bluesky screenshot is Jones’ intellectual property are gobbledygook,

Asian Z'dar seems to have been trying to employ lawfare tactics about on the same level as those DMCA trolls who will hit up random blogs and threaten to sue for unauthorized use of an image or whatever unless you pay X thousands of dollars to make it go away.

I would like to hope that this means that Thwomp is exhausting his options to 'take down' Kiwifarms, but I'll defer to folks more legally inclined.
 
The destruction of the Internet sort of reminds me of how the Jews and the Jewish faith of absolute power meeting absolute dogma single-handedly destroyed all traces of knowledge of the ancient world, and the world ran completely on Jewish lies and nothing else right after. The last bastions of Alexandrian knowledge under Hypatia died to a more or less undignified manner in the hands of Jews.

History repeats. But now they no longer need to burn the books; they rewrite or make them inaccessible outright. We are probably just delaying the inevitable where the next generation or three will likely no longer be able to read, write or think for themselves beyond more establishment lies, and the subsequent generations will no longer learn anything beyond killing other human beings for the Islamic caliphate.

Set up a recurring payment. Hope that doesn't somehow fuck me over down the road, but even if does it's still a pittance compared to the risks the ringmaster takes. The fact I felt unsafe taking such a small action to support a fucking Internet forum was the push I needed to move forward with it. Godspeed.

It was pointed out recently that many users don't even realise the 'Support' button in the panel leads to information on ways to support the site. Intuitively they think it must instead be a way to contact staff for help. Changing the text to "Support the Site" and/or having it be a more prominent button would probably be wise.

I feel the same way. His ("Liz's") case seems very flimsy to me, and rather transparently a vindictive attack. And yeah! The goals are being reached so fast. The fund is close and there's barely any monthy subs left to go. Josh will likely end up with some comfortable extra to work with at this rate, so at least the money side of things will be taken care of.

All that's left is for the courts to do the right thing. Fingers crossed on that. 🤞

CR law and especially the DMCA, needs to be burned to the ground and only then thought about rebuilding. (The CR law part, NOT the DMCA)

Pretty much every aspect of modern CR law is counter to what it actually is, as it was originally intended! A short term protection on copying (and selling) a full artistic work.. A few years or so, not a century. To ensure the creator can make some money off of it, so that others with money can't come along and sell it out from under them, and thus incentivize the creation of more works. That is the SOLE legal and ethical basis and justification for CR. The idea that things like this are protected is even more insane.

DMCA makes the problems with current CR law 100 times worse. It offers CR claimants the ability to sit back and do/prove nothing by making legal claims first and forcing the target to either do what they demand or basically prove their own innocence. It takes away the responsibility on the CR claimant to prove infringement and loss in court, and puts it on everyone else to comply or face huge legal risk. Without ever having to prove or even show anything.. just a claim. That's not how our legal system works. It throws fundamental principles of the very foundation of law and justice, out the window.

It can't be overstated how outrageously it twists law and fairness. Nor can it be overstated how important the overturning of DMCA would be. Doing so would mean they (people making CR claims) actually have to do something.. It takes effort and time to identify claimed infringers in any sort of useful way, let alone to a legal threshold. And, most importantly, it means they actually have to make and prove a case. So instead they abuse the worst most damaging elements of the already (arguably) extra legal and dystopian disaster known as the DMCA. The guilt by "trust us" system it sets up to make take-down threats etc.

DMCA needs to go ASAP regardless. For a whole bunch of other reasons too.
The fact that it could be used for this kind of censorship and bad faith attack, makes it even more imperative to get overturned.
