>if they have the same psychological structure as real women, would they not succumb to the same pitfalls as human women?
The way I see it, above all, anthro women are a fantasy. (Don't mean it as an insult, humans dreamed of flight for millennia before technology caught up)
And, since they only exist in our imagination and in art manifestations, humans mold them to their preferences.
For that matter, it makes plenty of sense to also absolve these idealized phantasms of the sins and vices that we dislike in real humans. The result can range from the characters being just more childishly naive and pure, to being morally incorruptible and righteous to existing as one-dimensional automatons whose purpose in life is to please the human self-insert. Barring some particular scenarios where it serves the larger plot e.g. to deconstruct the trope itself, these probably just reflect the creator's views on society and gender dynamics (a.k.a. "the writer's barely disguised fetish").
This can be wholesome or cringe and isn't limited to anthros either. Plenty of mainstream stories, shows, movies where the guy gets the hot babe at the end just because he is the protagonist. Not limited to male fantasies either as the reverse is also true.
Realistically speaking, it is hard for us to imagine a species devoid of sin as we see it, and even the utopian future of Star Trek had plenty of rotten apples in it. But, we haven't even met any other sapient species yet. What's more, the same animals we admire certain physical traits in, seem to also exhibit behavior we often interpret as what's missing from so many humans. E.g. bonding for life, being fiercely loyal etc. You've already drawn fur and tail, why not add that too?
>you also have the added problem of an anthro woman not wanting to date a man of her own species probably having some sort of mental issues
A fair point, though it doesn't take long to come up with a list of explanations (or excuses). E.g. the skewed gender ratio (biological or as a result of a war), some kind of psychological gender dimorphism making anthro males an unpleasant bunch, or just a free-for-all hmofa + amofh sort of deal where everyone is can mingle with whomever they fancy (pic related).
Is it a bad or destructive fantasy to indulge in? I don't think so, as long as we also remain grounded in reality, stay open-minded and treat others the way we'd like to be treated ourselves.
These topics will gain infinitely more substance once anthro women become more than just an idea.
tldr: monkey dreams of fluffy girls and imagining them as more virtuous comes free of charge, so as long as the monkey doesn't turn bitter or harms others, why not?
