The harassment began after I went to the Osaka Expo in cosplay. Even though the Expo has an official rule that allows cosplay, there’s this strange, unwritten rule in Japan’s cosplay community that says, “Don’t cosplay outside of cosplay events.” Many people started pushing that at me. The Expo organizers didn’t release any statement and just left things as they were, which only emboldened the haters. Now, every time I speak, they’re watching like hawks, looking for anything they can use to attack me. Lately, it seems to be a trend among them to say I resemble this overweight villain character. If you look at the quote tweets on this post, you’ll see that things escalated even more when the creator of the manga drew an illustration that mimicked my photo. This is what it’s like in Japan, the so-called manga powerhouse. Honestly, it’s disgraceful. I'm truly grateful for your interest. I hope this issue gets significant attention in your country and sparks wider global awareness. If that happens, maybe Japan—the so-called manga powerhouse—can become a cooler, better country. x.com/himalaya_pink/
