i get why people are skeptical of claims about “rising antisemitism” in a world where a genocidal state is claiming everyone standing up to them is being antisemitic, but the reality is that the average person actually genuinely is being more antisemitic. every comment section on every single post i saw about Holocaust Remembrance Day was like this

israel’s actions ARE causing a rise in antisemitism in the average gentile, because they push the narrative of representing jewish people as a whole, which would make us all culpable for their horrific actions. and even the people who aren’t being antisemitic themselves are certainly more okay with the people around them being antisemitic. it's likely someone you know or are close with believes in some sort of conspiracy about jews running the world or having all the money or controlling the media etc etc. not zionists, not israelis, jews. israel wants jews to believe that everyone hates us and they’re the only safe place for us to exist. as a diaspora jew whose family fled the shoah this is not fucking true and it’s insulting to say that it is, but being a gentile saying this shit only helps israel’s cause because it's what they want us to believe. they want the world to hate jews. don’t fucking fall for it. judaism is not zionism and zionism is not judaism.

to be fair, this is kind of exactly why people are skeptical — institutions like the ADL and similar groups that produce these statistics are deeply zionist and are counting anyone speaking out for palestine in these hate crime statistics. it’s important to acknowledge that both of these things are true; that zionist groups are coopting the idea of antisemitism to suit their needs (making the word feel as though it means nothing!) AND that actual antisemitism — that is, hatred towards judaism and any jewish people, holocaust denialism, saying that we “deserved” the shoah or that “hitler was right”, that kind of thing — are all happening more and more in increasingly public spaces

semi serious answer even though it’s not a genuine question: because they see us as race traitors. they don’t like that we as antizionist jews exist because it blows their whole ideology wide open. we push back on the idea that zionism is inherently part of judaism, and if zionism isn’t inherently part of judaism, like at least 85% of their arguments go straight down the toilet. zionism is a (recent) white supremacist ideology using a (literal millennia old) ethnoreligion as a mask for their nonsense. instantly accusing anyone who speaks out against zionism of being an antisemite is like a get out of jail free card for them; they can talk as much shit as they want but as soon as you so much as question the validity of their racist arguments they lose their minds and call you a bigot. antizionist jews – of which there are a lot more than you’d think!! – take away that get out of jail free card, or at least we try to. they can cry “self hating jews” or accuse us of faking our judaism all they want, but what it really does is expose them for the hypocrites they are. that’s why its so important for us to stand in solidarity forever and always with our palestinian siblings, our muslim siblings, and everyone else whose lives are being threatened in our name.

there’s a post here that explains the difference really well. overall its a matter of context, research, and being able to recognize propaganda for what it is. if you’re interested, there’s a lot of antizionist literature by jewish scholars that discuss this topic.

both zionists and antizionist antisemites love trying to shame jews for engaging in our religion — a religion we’ve been practicing for literal millennia — because of the use of the word israel. recently i had somebody in my notes try and tell me that mezuzot are zionist and i shouldn’t have a picture of one in my pinned post if i’m really an antizionist. they even invented a whole quote for what the mezuzah supposedly says:

this is, to be blunt, nonsense. this is what the mezuzah on my blog says:

what the person on my blog said was obviously in support of israel the state, whereas this quote refers to the religious concept of israel. it literally just means “a jewish person lives here”. i’m sure there ARE some explicitly zionist mezuzot out there, because they don’t always say the same thing, but as a concept and a tradition mezuzot are far, far older than the state of israel. this person (whose blog was completely blank. lol.) was asking me to abandon a jewish tradition because it involves the word “israel”. this is, obviously, incredibly antisemitic. that’s what my original post was about.

and the number of fans i have seen who made gifsets of that scene. art of that scene. fanfic about that scene. is absolutely abhorrent. many people found it attractive or sexy.

the master is a beloved, fan favorite character. and yes, they are evil, but they are funny, goofy, scifi evil. they’re “stop all the planes in midair for no reason” evil. they’re “turns everyone on earth into themself” evil. they are not nazi evil.

goyishe people don’t tend to realize that nazis cross that line. they’re so often used as easy, silly villains that the fact that they were real people, and that they are real people constantly escapes goyim’s peripheral vision.
