Auth token invalid - getting banned for using CLI #1497

@absdq2

Description

@absdq2

Version

2.46.1

Flavor

CLI (Command-Line Interface)

Platform

Mac

Export format

HTML

Steps to reproduce

When running CLI - it works with a new auth token, but the next time I try - my account is blocked, and I have to reset my password, get a new auth token and try again. The reason for the block is because of discords platform abuse - saying that it might be sending spam messages, but I don't see any of that happening. Is there something that changed recently? Haven't had any issues in months/years using it but the last week, this has happened 8 times

Using this program with a user token has always been against Discord's terms of service. They seem to be taking measures to enforce it more now, perhaps because of the large amount of people trying to export their data to leave the platform after the latest age verification news. Use a bot token instead.

+1 to this being a new detection measure.
I was doing an archive run with a user token due to the impending new verification policy. No issues for the entire span of Feb 11th to Feb 25th when exporting was run continuously without interruption.
I later returned to do an incremental export 12 hours ago using the same token. Export worked for 3 minutes across 14 channels and then all devices were logged out. An abuse notification email and a password reset email was sent to my inbox immediately after.

+1.

I tried to do it again, and immediately the token was invalidated. This is becoming a big issue.

I think my Discord account has been flagged. Now, whenever I use CLI to export messages, it gets banned immediately—even right after I've just changed the password.
But when I switch to an alt account to log in and export, there's no such issue. If I change the password on the main account, then log into the web version, and keep the web session open/active while running the CLI to export messages, it doesn't trigger a ban. However, as soon as I close the web client and run the CLI alone, it gets banned instantly.
I'm a bit worried that if this happens multiple times (repeated bans), it might trigger some kind of permanent marking or escalation on the account.

I do not remember if keeping the web client open worked for me. I think that if that was the case, then maybe we can just keep it open for the duration of the export?
I understand why Discord flagged my account. I was exporting a lot.

About the violations, there are many stages before your account gets banned. If you go to settings and click standing in the account page, it'll show you some of what you need to know.

Hello, I also received a message about a possible account ban.
Is there any way to get around this?
I would like to keep the server logs for study purposes only.

My biggest fear is losing my account.
It really is very annoying...
Not being able to access your history, especially when you want to use it for study purposes.
