A game ahead of its time, might be one of my favorite games ever. It’s weird as hell and won’t click for everyone but it’s unforgettable that’s for sure.

Dan Smith is one of the coolest mfs in fiction and there’s an Epstein boss battle, what else do you need in a game?

killer7 is one of the greatest games I've ever experienced and my first SUDA51 title I've played to completion. It is a fascinating piece of art with a sublime aesthetic that is a testament to the imagination of the human mind. It is a story about the relationship between the USA and Japan (especially post-WWII) but also about a "group" of assassins who are controlled by the former who are also trying to figure out their own identity and where they belong in this world. It took me a few tries across the last year to get into it but I'm glad I really stuck with it this time.

Besides the amazing art direction it's also just very fun to play and the story is extremely layered and can be interpreted in a handful of ways. The cutscenes are very fun to watch too and the voice acting was both hilarious at times but also very convincing. The soundtrack is one that I wish was pressed onto vinyl (or hell, even was on streaming services...). I can't get Rave off/Rave on out of my head. The ambience tracks are super great especially and belong amidst the general chaotic nature of the game. Would I recommend it though? Well, yes, but it might take you a few hours before it "clicks" - for me it clicked after the first mission wrapped up and the exposition after played out because the world and the politics are very interesting. The ending blew my mind too, but not in what it told me, rather in how it was presented. The foreshadowing paid off. 10/10.

Possibly my favorite game of all time. Great dreamlike atmosphere with amazing music, interesting story, and a great sense of space and pace.

if your a fan of suda51 and haven't given this game a try i think your missing out its status as one of the best games in his catalogue is well warranted stylish presentation and intuitive game mechanics make this linear experience feel fresh and groundbreaking i bet that most people probably don't play many rail shooters these days but the amount of things to do as you solve puzzle to progress forward make this seemingly straight forward path into a madhouse rollercoaster in the best way possible the only thing that is a little hit or miss for me is some of the boss encounters are a bit frustrating to get a grip on and can lead to some confusion but hey that's what google is for i like this game a decent amount so maybe you will too

I do consider this game an underrated masterpiece but it has some issues.

The story, setting, characters and lore are what what sets this game apart. Anyone familiar with Suda51 will know his games are famous for their frenetic, crazy, seemingly nonsensical energy. However, there is order in the chaos, there is meaning and sense to seemingly unrelated and meaingless shenanigans. The story will stick with you long after you stop playing the game. You'll spend the entire time playing trying to figure out what's going on, and no one knows what's going on, perhaps not even Suda51 himself.

The gameplay is not terrible, it's like a point and click adventure style puzzle solving game and a rail shooter combined. You traverse levels, and any time you hear laughter, you have to plant your feet and look for invisible enemies by scanning them, then you need to shoot them before they reach you. The controls are very odd to say the least, but once you get the hang of them it feels intuitive. The "Puzzle solving" is probably the lowpoint of the game. You look for items around levels, you take items to other places, you unlock doors... I found it was just padding between boss and story encounters, but I did enjoy going around killing different types of enemies as I explored the levels.

But it's still a must play, you need to experience this game for yourself to really appreciate the absurd value it holds.

killer7 is pinnacle Kill the Past, Goichi Suda's true masterpiece. It's a shame this version isn't on more platforms as it really should be experienced by a wider audience. Leon getting Dan's outfit in Resident Evil Requiem's Deluxe Edition as as bonus costume warmed my heart.
